Default Huge intercooler... air flow restriction to radiator?

Hey guys!

I notice the IC is huge, but it looks like it'll drastically restrict airflow to the radiator.

Especially for the stock bumper, anyone think there's enough room to direct some more airflow from around the intercooler so the radiator can get some more air?

Another thing... does the stock black grille need to be cut out of the bumper as well? If so, is it okay to put a mesh in that area?

your mesh technically doesnt need to be cut-

but plan on doing some sort of air routing to the raditor. i.e. hood with vents. or cutting the stock front bumper near the nose / license area to allow more air into the raditor..

although the water temperature never really reached anything over 115*C after hard driving. more cooling in there wouldnt hurt u know?

one way is to get a bumper with a larger side vents..

Awww man... I honestly want to keep the stock bumper.
I'm just adding in the TS CF diffuser to complete the simple
look on this car (after the skirts 'n spoiler).

I guess I reallly need to see the clearance between the bumper
and the IC.... well, that won't be for at least 2 years from now.

Oh yea Cheston. I've always wanted to compliment on your car.
Does it come "pre-configured" with default settings so that it's
bolt on 'n go? Or does it still require tuning? I like the filters that
come with that kit vs. Greddy (stupid things get brittle and fall
apart). I'm just worried that the PE kit requires real tuning vs.
the Greddy kit.

On a stock Z there are two plastic pieces blocking the left and right quarters of the stock grill. I have no idea why they're there at all, needless to say I wasted no time in dispatching them. Removing these plastic plugs compensates for whatever air flow the intercooler would block.

It's good to hear that the Greddy intercooler doesn't require cutting up your bumper. That would preclude any chance of a sleeper setup.

No it just requires removal of aluminum bumper up front.

the two plastic pieces inside the front bumper are to guide air for the radiator, well theoretically, if you remove them you might be able to get air to wrap around the intercooler and to other parts behind the IC...

actually the TS diffuser will help , it will cause the air flow to go faster under the car, and it will draw air away from the radiator to enter the airstream that's flowing under the car....so some air still goes away from the underside.

its topside that would help imho a little more..

PE kit, if you want stock boost levels of ~4.4psi. is straight bolt on and go. no tuning needed *as stated from PE japan*

Man... that PE kit is hot! [sigh] decisions decisions... I think I missed this, but I'd like to see the electronics the PE kit has.

I'm figuring out what to do with gauges... I don't favor the pillar cluster add-on much... most obvious gauges are boost and A/F. Then oil and voltage.... snaps! I only have room for one more!

I doubt DEFI makes combos... ehehe.

So what goes in the empty navi compartment? I know the E-manage thing sits there for Greddy... I'd like to see what PE has.

well.. i have stock Navi.. so i'm full there.

but i went with the EVC5 boost controller system (imho. very very good) it has boost warning, boost cutoff, and you can set boost based on RPM, its got this really cool reverse LCD Heads-down display that you can mount in the compartment...

this is my setup.
Oil Temp.
the EVC can monitor boost levels for you, so getting another boost gauge is up to you.
CMX-100 (digital multi-meter for timing, water, A/F voltage.. etc...)

People are putting the profec e-01 boost controller / e-manage programmer in the navi spot. I have Navi so I do not know where I am going to put the e-01. The emanage is usually hidden near the stock ECU.

I wan't to mount the e-01 on the celing, I don't want anyone to think it's a TV and break into my car to steal it. Not only is it not a TV, it would be usless to anyone else and it costs about three times what a little lcd tv would cost.

I do not think the blockage of the radiator is an issue. The IC does not give off much heat, and the air can pass directly though it to the AC Condenser and Radiator.

Cool... I'd like to see the E-01 by itself sometime so that I can figure out how to permanently mount this unit in the navi area. I rarely have the navi-lid up, so even if someone were to break into my car... i'd lose something anyhow so no stopping.

I'd like to know what PE has, unless the SAFC-II can replace everything.... but I doubt that makes sense, right? I'm not much of a gear head here.

I'm hesitant to get a kit because there's no professional installer here or tuner. I don't trust anyone here either. I'll probably make a trip to Texas just to get my car done.

I don't trust the Nissan dealer for anything... even repairs after what happened to my dad's car. We're still in the process of fighting them...
