Default any vortech owners PLEASE HELP!!!!

just got my kit in today. not going to put it in yet, cause i'm waiting on my rims to come in.

the please help is cause, when i got home with the kit, i was going through the instructions and on page two (for the oil drain line installation) i see that their is a hole in the block. is that the oil drain plug hole or do you have to drill a hole in the block. i've asked vortech along time ago (before i got the kit) do you have to drill a hole in the block, they said no.

i was reading the instructions and it says "to provide an oil drain for the supercharger, it is necessary to make a hole in the driver's side of the aluminum upper oil pan. locate and center-punch the hole. (see fig.2-a)" and in the picture, the hole they are pointing to looks like the block.

please tell me i'm just a dumb *** and i can't read right. i'm shitting in my pants right now.

Yup. You HAVE to drill a hole. However, you can get a JWT Oil Pan Spacer and drill the hole on that. 1, you dont have to drill your factory oil pan. 2, now you have 1 extra quart of oil helping you cooling down the FI engine. 3, its not that expensive, Perfrormance Nissan sells it for under $100.

Good luck,

where the book tells you to put a whole is not really the engine block, it just looks like it. The VQ has a 2-peice oil pan.. the lower is a very very small steel pan with almost no capacity... the large aluminum one above it is where they want you to drill.

It is a scarey idea at first, drilling that hole and getting debris all over the engine... but once you get that lower pan off you will see that you have tons of room in there to make sure and get it all very clean and free of debris.

I still do not believe that the JWT spacer is a good idea for the Vortech kit. The hole you drill for the Vortech kit is above the oil level in the pan since it is for a oil return. This oil return is controlled by gravity. If the return is below the the oil level it probably will not drain properly and could possibly harm the supercharger. Just my 2¢ but I would not go that route.

I agree, Vortech is very clear about having a gravity draining, (no vacuum draining) oil outlet that is ABOVE the oil line in the pan.

thanks alot fellas, in that pic they show you it looks like the block.

i knew that their was two peice to the oil pan but didn't think it looked that big. i might just buy that part of the oil pan cause i don't want any peice of metal from the drilling in the motor. if i do get the upper part of the oil pan is it hard to take off? i can't wait to put it on, i wish my rims would get here faster but i also would like to put alittle more miles on the car.

and once again THANK ALOT guys, now i can sleep tonight.

Sorry man, but you can't remove the upper pan without pulling the engine. So don't buy the pan, and just be REALLY careful when you tap it.
