Default Vortech Problem?

Hi I have had my vortech installed for a few days now and I finally got a chance to get on it wide open throttle. Here's my problem I have a 5a/t and I had ts flash the ecu for the higher rev limiter so that it would shift right.Well it seems to shift fine but when I get to about 6500 rpms right before shifting the car just cuts out for a second like it is losing all fuel for a second and this happens in auto and maual mode throughout every gear.Anyone have any suggestions?

It could be a number of things: (1) timing retard isn't being applied gradually, (2) an overly rich A/F ratio above 6500 rpms, (3) an ignition misfire (maybe).

My vote is for number 2. Have you had your SS box custom tuned?

Does it do it ..just as it is shifting ???? Mine would fall flat on its face as it was shifting [just for a split sec.] and kick back in...after the shift was all the way into the next gear

Yes it does it just as it is shifting exactly like you said it falls flat on its face.

I had a similar problem with my G35 AT – Here is what you have to get done.

Send you ECU back to TS and get the stock fuel / timing map reloaded. Make sure it’s the STOCK map, they will want to load the Vortech Map they produce but it won’t work correctly (it has too much timing for the SS box to compensate). Also tell TS to load the Transmission fix as well (harder shifting). If you have any other mods like Crawford plenum tell them about it so they can load that as well. Once you receive the ECU back hook it up and head to your location tuning shop and get on the dyno. I had to compensate in the SS software for timing and fuel to get my A/F perfect. You can PM me with any other questions you might have. Note: If you want an example of how mine shifts visit my web site and click the video icon in the bottom right side. ( 0-100 ) This is what worked for me after several trial and error sessions. www.dfwg35.com

I had this same problem. Its the timing in the split sec box. Make sure the timing retards by no more then 1 degree at a time. If it jumps from 2 degrees at 5krpm to 5degrees at 5500, it will cause that slight hesitation.

Good point about the ECU reflash... Did they just do the L-Spec reflash (i.e. raised revlimit, throttle-body mod, and removed speed limiter)? Or did they do anything else as well?

dfw350z, your sig says that you ran a 12.2 with a trap speed of 123.2 mph?? I'm guessing that's not a real track run but a GTechPro measurement, no? See my PM.

i'm having the same problem with mine, but mine cuts out right after the shift. talked to tecnosquare and they didn't know what was wrong. it only does it when alot of trottle is applied. sounds like we all have simular problems with same program. i was the car they used for the program.

Well tecnosquare is saying that it is probably because of the ss box tuning ,that because of the timing being pulled so much and the mix being to rich from vortech that the computer is getting confused.Does this sound feasible? This is driving me crazy I went from running low 13's with a 50 shot of n2o to running a 14.4 with the vortech because of the hesitation.I really need to solve this!!

I have the L-Spec program and I have the Vortech supercharger. I am not seeing this issue--but I have the manual tranny.

Seems like eseemes (one of the guys on this board) has had his Vortech custom tuned and he lives in Florida.

Yes I sent him a e-mail but after searching I found out he has a 6mt so I dont think he will have the answer.

Anyone with a 5a/t with a vortech not having a problem please let me know what exactly you have done to your car so I can compare.
Thanks

Ok ...I had the shift lag and solved it with a 03 AT5 TCM upgrade that Infiniti /Nissan has on there Asist files .The dealers didnt even know about it , but I was told by a Infiniti tech .I had it done...and it worked. Tranny shifted faster and harder .Ive since added a torque converter and a 9lb pulley and adjusted my BOV . The BOV was closing wayyyyyyyyy late and could only get 7.1 bls boost on the 8lb pulley at redline . Now that the BOV is working right and with the 9lb pulley [dont know which caused it ] But the lag between shifts is back . I do think it is a timing thing as Zimbo mentioned . I havent touched the timing map with the R4 software...only fuel...I am retuning in 2 weeks and will find out then...Bill

I only meant that he might be able to refer you to an R4-knowledgeable tuner within a few hours of you.

Whats weird now is that I just watched your video and my car is definatly acting different I cant even get to 7200 rpm even in manual mode because it chokes right before it .Like I mentioned earlier at about 6800 rpm my car just feels like all power is cut for about 1 sec then comes right back.Other than that everything is seems to be working great.

It really sounds like a fuel/timing tuning issue. Do you have the ability to upload your SS map onto a laptop and share it with us?
