Default tt vs t

no, i dont have a z yet, but it'll be here shortly, like within a few weeks. me and my friend got together, and thought about having our own team and of corse i wanted to join and told him i'll be getting a 350z in a few weeks. so we talked about what he had planned. and than he talked about what i was going to do with my z. i told him greddy tt kit. like within 6 months. i can prolly pay for the kit by the end of summer. but anyways back to topic. he told me not to get a tt kit and just go with a single big turbo. he said it'll be cheaper, and there wont be as much lag. he's my friend and all, but i dont know if i trust him when it comes to force induction. haha. so i was wondering are the things he said true? if i was to run a single turbo, than wouldnt i have to be boosting at more psi to get the same numbers a tt kit would put out with the same psi? will it really be cheaper to do so?and i dont think anyone has a single turbo out, so does that mean i'll have to start from scartch? anyone's help would be helpful, thanks again ya

a) please use paragraphs from now on

b) there's no single turbos out... One reason is fitment, there isn't enough room under the hood to fit the right-sized turbo & plumbing.

c) a custom one will run you over $10k just for the kit + install, if properly designed & built. whats the point ?

d) my greddy tt gives me FULL BOOST at about 3k rpm. Don't worry about lag, there is near-none.

e) the PE TT has smaller ball-bearing turbos which spool even faster.

f) I have the Greddy and I'm happy with it. But it requires a bunch of extra work and rewiring things to avoid safety hazards and headaches. It also has cheap head gaskets, no fuel system, fuel lines that run VERY close to the turbos, oil lines that are dangerously close to a metal "ground", power steering lines that are zig-zaggy, and less-efficient turbos AND intercooler than the Power Enterprise system.

I love my Greddy, but I spent a buncha extra time and money getting to where I want it to be, and its STILL not quite there. The PE on the other hand, solves alot of issues, and is VERY easy to just turn up to 8psi. Just reflash it for $595 from Technosquare. With Greddy this is not so, you need to program and tune the eManage, get a fuel system, etc.

What I'm trying to say is, forget about a single turbo, and forget about lag or other reasons.

If I were you, I'd go with the PE. But either way you go, have alot more than just the "turbo kit" money ready. You're looking at about $10k+ for a good Greddy setup, and about $12k+ for a good PE setup. And those figures are actually conservative.

youre friend is an idiot, he's a ricer...you shouldnt talk to him anymore. turbo lag is determined mainly by how big of a turbo is being spooled. so the bigger the turbo, the longer it will take to spool. two 18G's are a lot smaller and will spool quicker due to less rotating mass in the exhaust fins than say a big T78 or something.

You wont have to boost more to get the same power, as long as the smaller twins flow as much air (CFM) as a single larger they will make the same power and probably spool faster. PSI, as i have heard (dont shoot the messenger) is more related to torque than a turbo's volumetric flow, which is more reflected by HP numbers.

Excellent post. Hate those money figures, lol, guess you have to pay to play. The PE is attractive, but I would like to have the ability to change the boost levels, instead of having to get a reflash everytime you want to up the boost.
