How Did Your 350Z Engine Fail Thread?
lets see..i have a vortech s/c got it installed at vortech, never was tuned by them (said it wasn't needed) installed in dec. lived in so cal until june, drove up to oregon saw some smoke got it tuned with 11.7 af with 93 oc. stock boost, smoke never went away, bag dyno #s (only 303rwhp) asked questions got a compression check, blowing past the rings on the pass. bank. thats all i have so far. (i've been out of town for a few weeks) now sitting at a engine shop waiting for my turn with the builder, to trear it apart to check all components. let you know when i get any new news

I think he was running the CA 91 crap before moving to Oregon where they have the good 93 stuff. Seems like the vast majority of the Greddy and Vortech blow-ups have been on 91 octane gas.
I dropped my g35 off today for the vortech install. While i was there he told me that the have toasted two ati 350's. Apparently both were running 10 lbs boost with a pulley swap but using the e manage so a/f was (apparently) fine. His theory was that of most here. That the rods are crap, and under greater boost you get piston slap which scores the walls and leads to premature wear thus causing severe oil consumption. Seems like a viable opinion.

don't know if i commented yet (too lazy to check), but my setup blew a little something like this..
stock 04 350z motor
greddy tt kit w/fmic
timing harness with diodes, pulling 3-4 degrees timing
8/8.5 lbs of boost at 5500 ft altitude (cylinder pressure equivalant to 6.5 lbs at sea level)
that's about it...
damage:
my old motor is not completely disassembled yet, but from the looks of it, two adjacent rods broke, piston parts galore, two nice big windows in the block...suspected damage to one/both heads (metal pieces in intake manifold)...hmmm....and the best part of it all....only 2 months after my car had the kit installed!!!! wooohooooo
but, my rebuilt motor is done and will be in my car in a matter of days...ernie's car just got fired up last week, sounds meaner than two rats in a wool sock!....so we are both coming back with a bigtime vengance~!!!!
i though an actual 380rwhp was a lot of power...we'll have to see about 15-18 psi and an ACTUAL 500-550rwhp!!!

I know of two vortech's...Dustin which was already mentioned and booger. Booer was using DFW's map for the split second which did not have enough timing pulled. DFW was pulling timing through the ecu also, but booger could not see this or know this. Booger's problem was caused by unknowingly using a map that would not work on his car.
