What is the timing now for making this buy? I just received my pistons today and assume the rods shouldn't be far behind.

Zcool....glad the pistons arrived so quickly. Can you post some pics.

Timing of this GB will likely be in about 2-3 weeks....unless there is demand to start it sooner. I just want to make sure we have at least 10 firmly committed people on the injectors and stud kit.

Another thing I just found out is that the ARP studs only have threads long enough to thread into the block one inch. The stock bolts thread in 1.5 inches. I called SGP about this and they said it isn't a problem. My machinist said he would feel more comfortable with the studs threading in the whole 1.5 inches in a high boost aplication like mine. No worries about breaking the bolts but concerns about pulling the threads out of the block, especially with our wide head bolt spacing. Just something I wanted to point out. Any other comments.

So you believe your mechanic over ARP's years and years of R&D on studs??

We have used ARP studs on supra's making 1000+ Rwhp and 300zx's making 850+ Rwhp for over 4 years now and have never had a stud pull out

I cant remember the mathematical formula, but there is a forumal you use to determine optimum stud depth. For instance, if 1 inch is optimum, than 1.5 inch dept adds nothing in terms of strength. Regardless, studs are at least twices as strong as a bolt...given the physics of whom a stud works, vs. a bolt.

FYI for those building up their motors. Check out this website...really comprensive catalog of OEM Nissan parts. Engines, short blocks, bearings, etc..etc.

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...03&catalogid=1

I just found out the rod bearings are only $7.00 per half bearing. I am assuming you need two of them per rod. So for under $100, you have a new rod bearing set...not too bad...I was expecting more.

They also sell a short-block brand new for about $2500. Just some additional options I wanted to pass along.

No I was just expressing a concern, I didn't know if the studs were specific for our motors or if you had just put a set together that was close enough. Do the 300z's and Supras both have studs that only go in 1 inch? I guess I just don't understand why they wouldn't design them to thread in as far as oem bolts.

It is probably a cost vs need thing. Why make them 1/2" longer and up the price if it is not needed? Honestly I don't know but I do trust ARP and have for years.

The 300zx and Supra studs are basically the same.

Default head studs

From my understanding the main reason to use studs vs. bolts is not so much to make them more resistant to breakage or pulling , but to normalize the TQ and clamping forces between head and block deck , which minimizes a head gasket blow out. Note: studs are only hand tightened (floating) into the block and "not" bottomed out or twisted during the TQing porceedure.

correct, the studs are hand tightened....that's a good point...and maybe the reason they dont have to completely fill the whole. The ARP studs are tested to 200,000psi or something incredible like that...so they are significantly stronger than our stock bolts.

Like Kyle said, ARP has the best reputable for quality fasteners, and if they say its correct...I would agree with their opinion 100%.

Count me in on the GB for both GQ. Oh and Kyle of SGP, how about hooking us up with a good deal on some Tomei cams?

I definitely in for the studs. Undecided on the injectors mostly because I'm unclear as to what modifications need to be made to the fuel rails. I'd prefer something that fits "as is".

gq_626,

Can I order a set of 380cc injectors for the TS reflash?
I have modest power needs and would like to not cut/splice/file injector stuff.

thanks,
rob

the PE injectors are almost twice the price, so we arent doing a GB on them. you could get a 440cc injector which is very close, but you would to cut/solder. It's really easy to do.

Zimbo, no major mods are needed to the fuel rail to use the RC's. Just a bit of grinding on the car to make space, and a couple of spacers. It's something the Greddy kit people have alreday done...and they can tell you its a very easy process.
