Default Basic Turbocharging questions...

Like everyone who comes to these boards, I am looking to mod my 350. I've asked a lot of questions but don't have a lot of experience on modding my car. The only things I've ever done outside of audio/video mods was a new suspension on my old bmw z3. I don't really know a whole lot.

That said, I want to mod my Z. On top of that, i wan't to mod it so it performs (and looks) good. So I know things like wheels are in my future. I have looked a lot on the engine/drivetrain forums but it doesn't look like the Z pulls a lot of horsepower from its N/A mods. It just doesn't seem worth it. So here I am looking at F/I and I want to ask some questions about Turbos.

Is Turbocharging your car safe? What turbos are most reliable? I am pretty sure that any turbo mentioned on these boards will put forth a good amount of power. Having the most power isn't important, I want a good power gain but at the same time I want it to be reliable.

Will I have to do any maintenance or upkeep on my car if I get a turbo? What will I need to know, what things will I need to look for?

Will I need to do any other upgrades with a Turbo? If so, which ones are best? Any suggestions please. Things like suspension or engine internals. Not that I know really what I am asking when I mention internals, I just see people posting about them a lot. I have the general knowledge of all of the parts in my car, but I don't really know what people are talking about when they mention pressure and backflow and timing.

Basically I want the best bang for the buck, but at the same time I want to know what the heck I am doing to my car and how to make sure that it is always running well.

Now I do use my car as a daily driver as well. If I am overstepping my bounds here and should be considering other mods (maybe a supercharger or N/A) then please let me know if that may be better for me. There are just so many mods out there and the more I read the more I'm confused on which way I want to go.

Any help is appreciated. I know this is step #1 of many in the "mod my Z" dream that I have. Maybe with the help of all of you I will be able to do all of the mods I want to my car and in the end come up with some nice results.

Well man I am sure I could take some time to answer all your questions but then you would have more questions with the answers I give you.

Give a man a fish he eats for a day. Teach a man how to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

Basically I am saying you need to learn all of this stuff in order to determine what mods that will suit your budget and needs. I am from the WRX STi world and I am new to the 350z. I spent a few days searching all the questions I have and I now know EXACTLY what mods I need to reach my goals.

So in a nut shell you can't ask people what mods you need.

Besides.. I find searching the forum for answers to questions is ½ the fun!

Then lets keep it to just the turbocharging questions. When it comes to additional mods and upkeep, what is required and which are considered the most reliable?
