Default Let the rumor mill begin....

So I finally decided it's time for a new car. Just got raise number one, and promotion (and much bigger raise) is going to happen in the next 2 weeks. So I went to get a G35C brochure (only the 4th time I've been to the dealership this year). Finally desided I'd take one for a drive. And they had the 6MT ready to go. All I can say is nice. Very smooth. Wasn't used to a smooth power band as I'm currently driving an older 300ZX turbo that really kicks you at around 3500rpms. But the tac just sailed around. Anyway, I'm going to be buying at the end of April/early May time frame. Told the salesman that I wanted to see the 350 roadster in person first before I made my final decision. And he said....

ready for this?

The Infiniti G35 will be offered as a convertible in the November time frame.

This is the first I've heard of it. Anyone else heard this rumor? He also said that they will probably be marking them up over sticker because of the projected demand. (at least they were honest). But I could get the G35C for under sticker.

This just opened a whole new can of worms for me. Now I have a battle in my head.

You're assuming he's being honest. He's playing the time game with you, wait and pay more or immediate gratification now plus he'll get you a great deal, gimme a break. He wants to sell a car now! If you want to play his game tell him you might just wait, unless he knocks off a little more.

I get Road and Track, Motor Trend, AutoWeek, Automobile Magazine, and Car and Driver, plus watch Motorweek and Car and Driver TV. There has been no mention of a G35 convert. anywhere. Ask him to show you the Infiniti press release. The Z roadster has been talked about for more than a year and its finally here, ALMOST. So Nov. for G35 convert., I don't think so.

The G35 coupe is a great car, get it with the 6sp and sport package, I think (18" inchers and brembos) and maybe the spoiler. You'll have 90% of the best of the Z with 10% of the compromises. I love the lines of my Z but if had a different choice the G35 coupe would be it.

Good Luck

There was talks of a convertable in one of the major mags. Either Automobile or Car and Driver. All speculation on their part with no infiniti based source.

If you don't hear news of a G35 convertable at the NY auto show, then there will not be a convertable for 2004. 2005 will be a different story.

I totally agree. That's why I asked the question. I rarely believe anything salesman tell me. And I figured someone else may have heard of it.

I was trying to picture the G35 as a convertible and just couldn't.

I think it looks pretty sweet... alot better than the Z Roadster! But then again, only time will tell what the final product may look like...

Actually auto spies and another mag (I think C&D or R&T) mentioned that there WILL BE a G35C convertible. It only makes sense, if Infiniti wants to round out their lineup they need to add a convertible. Any auto brand that is trying to build up their image always needs a convertible, that's what the SC430 is to Lexus... That is what the SL500 has been to Mercedes, and that is what the Audi TT has been to Audi... It's going to happen, believe me..

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see a drop-top G35. If they do, I'd be willing to bet on a retractable hard-top...

It were serve two purposes.

1. Re-use the 350Z convertible engineering
2. A car with a small rear seat to compete with Lexus, BMW, Audi convertibles.

My buddy wants a 350Z convertible but needs a place for the dog. The G35 would satisfy that need.

Hey guys. I'm new here. Can some one tell me when the 350Z roadster is supposed to be out? I also went to test-drive the G35C two days ago and I'm supposed to go back to get it tomorrow, but if ther's a roadster coming by the summer I'll just drive my Legend for a few more months.

A g35c conv. is definately likely, but it would not come out just in time for winter. This isn't the first infiniti rep. that has rumored a conv. coming out in November.

That would be a terrible time to introduce a fun summer car. Only people in S. Florida or S. Cal. would be able to put the top down before Spring. Conv. sales suck in the winter and are better in the summer. I'd say that's pretty basic logic.
