Nissan has said new Z in 2009 as a 2010 model. No specifics yet on the engine, but they said it will be new for 2010, so I am sure the 3.7L will be old news by then.

Wrong. It will be a 2009 model not a 2010. It will be out in late 2008. Straight from the the horses mouth and the designer of the Z. Mad Mike.

wow...365hp at 3.7L??? almost at the coveted 100hp per liter mark...i think more aggresive cams and higher redline will do the trick...the tq will suck though...lol.

What irresoponsible publication by Motor Authority. 365hp @ the flywheel and 25% drivetrain loss for the 6mt?

I would like to see some emperical data on that.

365HP flywheel power is overly exaggerated [thanks to the media]. Think about cars out there with that much power advertised, and the G37 would be asking for a beating.

It's closer to about 350hp at the crank. Still impressive.

I must be again missing something here and must ask where is this 350 figure coming from?

Nissan, a company not traditionally known for underrating, has already publicly released the figure of ~330hp crank in the press release. Given past records, this figure is usually within a few hp of the official rating pending certification and approval. Anything north of say 336 is probably a pipe dream.

350 - ~17% drivetrain loss is 290.5whp, close to the 287whp it put down on a dyno in these vids from another thread https://my350z.com/forum/other-vehicles/273510-g37-dyno-numbers.html

What's so hard to understand?

What's so hard to understand?
Precisely that, the 17% drivetrain loss, which is an unsubstantiated guess. Automobile magazine did not venture to make such assumption. In addition, the VQ35 dyno they (Automobile Mag.) provided for comparison is and certainly looked like that of the older "non rev-up" VQ35DE model.

If we must play the drivetrain loss voodoo magic game, then it ought to look more like the following:

"Non Rev-up" VQ35DE
Factory rating: 275hp SAE*
Automobile Dynojet rating: 236hp
--> calculated drivetrain loss = ~14.2%

VQ37VHR
Automobile Dynojet rating: 287hp
assuming the particular '08 G35 coupe has similar drivetrain loss @ ~14.2%
--> calculated crank/flywheel power = ~334hp SAE

Coincidence (to the preliminary factory 330hp rating)? Not likely, especially given the +/-3% precision at play for typical chassis dynos.

*Note: based on revised SAE power measurement rating and certification (not to be confused with SAE dyno corrections).

The fact of the matter is modern manual transmission typically do not give up much more than 10% in efficiency. 4-5% of lost from tire to Dynojet roller interface is not uncommon.

You're just not impressed with the actual number. As you can see, the curve is very nice.
