Default winter tires for a g35 6mt (w/ 19" wheels)

I have an '06 G35 6MT w/ 19" wheels. I am discovering that finding a way to have traction in winter conditions is a pretty expensive proposition. Going to tirerack it seems that my only option is to buy $240 Blizzaks. I know these are great tires. The size I am working w/ as some of you know is 245/40/19 and 225/40/19. Not a lot of winter tires come in those sizes!

So I'm wondering, has anyone else dealt with this issue. I know there is also the possibility of buying a set of 18" wheels and tires together... but with the issues of the tire pressure sensors and the brake calipers, etc., I am not sure that this will work. Has anyone done that?

Any help is much appreciated.

Josh

I went from 18" wheels to 17" on my '04 coupe. TireRack claimed the 17s would fit over the Brembos and they were correct. I bought the least expensive alloy wheels they sold mounted with Dunlop Graspics for just under $1k. Well worth the money, as the car was quite driveable in the snow last year.

I skipped the tire pressure sensors because it would have cost another $400. The warning light stays on with the winter wheels mounted obviously, but other than that there are no issues.

Josh,
I have an 07 6mt coupe with 17" wheels and tires currently mounted. As previous poster mentioned the tire pressure light is on all the time - if it bothers you I would recommend covering it with electrical tape or something. No clearance issues whatsoever. I have 225/55/17 in back and 225/50/17 in front. It cost about $900 shipped from tirerack which is what you are looking at for the 19's anyway, but with separate wheels you can keep your stockers in much better shape.

Been there and done that. It's not worth it in my opinion. Maybe if you plan on keeping the G for many years it might be.

pilot sport a/s come in the sizes that will work with the oem rims you mentioned, thats what im running and there pretty good but that still means driving in the snow/ice of D.C. is rediculous. I think its 245 35 19 and 255 45 19, something like that don't remeber( might be 245 45 19 and 255 35 19) check it out
