wav files are uncomrpressed or at least less compressed than mp3. The music box will only play mp3 and is only loadable through the a cd (wav format). Mp3s can not be loaded directly to the box. If there is please let me know, it will save a whole lot of time. I do not know the quality of the mp3 conversions by the music box, but unless you have higer defintition aftermarket speakers installed, I do not think you will be able to tell the difference in sound quality. If you want to test and compare it, I suggest making one cd (wav), rip that to the music box (mp3)and listen to the two.

Going to give both a try and see if you can even rip MP3's..
