S2000 owners Talkin' Trash
They are a bunch of fanboys just like the majority of people here are a bunch of fanboys. It really only seems that the the guys who really race their cars on the roadcourses truly respect each other's cars. Not a bunch of mag racing wannabes.
After reading both of those threads, I really don't see any real bashing going on. In fact, I see just as much smack talk in this thread as I do in the ones over at s2ki.
I used to own an S2000 before I traded it in for the G35 Coupe. After driving both cars, I can tell you from my experience, the S2000 does feel faster. Especially since the G's horsepower dies at the higher rpm range.
As with any car forum, when someone posts something about a car that's close in performance, people *will* defend their car. There's nothing wrong with that as long as facts are used and not opinions.

I don't understand what the big deal is. The G and the S2K are 2 completely different cars. I just came out of a Miata. The only convertible I looked at was an S2K. The Z4 lacks an LSD and is ugle. The Boxster is slow and pricey. I didn't want a Miata because the only real problem I've had with the Miata was the lack of power. So, I looked at 2 S2Ks.
The situation isn't the same as 3 years ago when dealers were asking a premium. I saw as much as $4000 off new ones. I test drove 2 and was very disapointed. The handling is good and the steering feel is great. The problem is the rest of the car. While I fit into the Miata fine, I am crammed into the S2K. The seats don't fit me and arent' comfortable. The center console is rediculously too high making shifting awkward and I am jammed against the door. The other Hondas and Acuras I've driven all feel spacious with roomy interiors, but the S2000s' dash feels like it is on top of me. Back in the 80's digital dashes were popular with auto makers, but not consumers. The Corvettes were criticized for years until the C5 came out for not having clocks. The digital dash in the S2k is an embarrassment to me for a company who has consistantly made some of the best gauge clusters in the industry. Last, while the numbers are decent; I am severely disappointed with the engine. I was expecting a kick when it hits VTEC like the Preludes have. Instead, the torque stays flat and it just keeps revving. There was no rush. I like torque and that feeling of being pulled back in the seat. I get none of this with the S2K. Unless I was above 7500 rpms, it wasn't even faster than the Miata. Even Honda is figuring it out since they are increasing the displacement 10% for the new model year. All in all, it isn't a bad car as long as you fit in it and I do think it is worth the money. It just isn't the car for me. When I made the decision not to buy an S2K, I made the decision not to buy a convertible at all.

theres still tons on the road so i dont think honda needs to "figure out" anything
i just didnt want a convertible otherwise id probably ahve a supercharged suzuka blue s2k right now

When dealers are taking $4000 off and having cars sit on the lot for 3+ months they definitely have to "figure out" something if they want the car to continue. When the cars were fresh and in demand, dealers were suckering people out of as much as $10,000 over sticker(David McDavid Honda was very proud of this when I recently talked to them about a new one). Sorry early S2K owner, no price gouging on G35s or 350Zs. As popularity of the S2K has fallen, so have the prices. The same dealer that was gouging 3 years ago had a new one tagged at $29K in the showroom when I was looking.
Fortunately Honda has listened to their owners and potential customers. I looked at the pre-release info on the 04'. They are also going to have a redesigned interior and clock gauges may be returning. They are going to still have the "start" button to keep the sports theme. They are regearing the transmission to take advantage of the extra torque. The only downsides to the 04' is that they are also supposed to get a softer suspension. I would hate for them to mess up the best part of the car.
Unfortunately, there are also 2 other cars that are shortly going to steal their thunder. The Supercharged Mazdaspeed Miata is coming out next fall and we are only a year and a half away from seeing the Elise here in the states. I suspect if either of these cars gets classes against the S2K and Boxster, their reign in autocrossing is over. Remember that the CS Miatas were a little faster than the BS S2Ks last years at Nationals. This year because of the weather, all the trophy winning CS cars were faster than BS.

I was referring to Autocrossing classes. My point was if the Elise and Mazdaspeed Miata go in the same Auto-X class as the S2K, its rule at the top is over.

No technology?
How about continuously variable valve timing, direct ignition, molybdenum coated pistons, dual overhead cams, four valves/cylindar, sequential multi-port fuel injection, aluminum block and head, 10.3:1 compression and LEV status????
No tech...
(nevermind 287 bhp and 274 lb.-ft. of torque)

Along with ChrisS and RStark, I too come from S2ki.com. Not all of us are haters. In fact, two of us in Houston have 1 of each.
