Unless , you take out your back seat , spare tire, and whatever else you have to take to make the weight equivalent to the Z, and if your going to do all that to beat a Z, you should have just bought the Z. When I beat a guy with a G, and his comment is man that Z is Quick, I say and so is your G and it looks nice as well. I think they are both nice cars.

G beats Z, Z beats G, Civic beats both G and Z and Viper...
Any car can beat any other car if you throw enough money at it. You want to beat everyone? Reach in your pocket, pull out a wad of cash, and start throwing it at your car! Your car will suck up the cash and get faster...works every time.

hertrich...I think you are giving the G guys a bad name...
to say it is hands down a better car is opinion, plain and simple.
For ME, it was the better car...for my roommate and the guys who made this site, the Z was the better car.
Sly_Z said it well. The g35coupe is not a Z and in my opinion should not be campared to one. It is luxury, the Z is not. It is sports coupe, the Z is sports car. It is significantly heavier, the Z is not. The G is a 2+2 zcar, the G is a 2-seater sports car. Stock for stock, or comparably moded, given the same drivers, the Z will beat the g35 each time. If drivers are off in skill, or the Z driver slips, yes a G can beat it on a given day.
Just keep in mind the reasons you bought a Z or a G. I would guess the Z guys bought it for speed and the pure sports car feel. I would also bet the G guys bought it for th emore well rounded car, much more luxury and plushness, but still have the giddy-up to beat most things on the road.
The are both beautiful cars, but should be respected for different reasons...

Both cars are awesome. I like the G better but tha's just my opinion.
Now if only the Z coupe came with t-tops or a sunroof, I might have bought one. Performancewise, I have beaten Z's but I think that if I were in the Z's that I would not have got beat because when I test drove the Z it did feel quicker.

Wow, some of the Z guys here are a little to over confident with their cars. I mean the G puts out 280chp while the Z has 287chp
I know there is a SLIGHT weight advantage with the Z but with a 7hp difference its going to be a drivers race. Both cars have the same exact engine don't they?? Now if we are going to talk about modded z's and g's, it depends on who spends more money, not what car you have. I had a Stg 4 WRX that would of wiped the floor with both the Z and G no matter what they had in it but does that make it a better car?? NO. Ill be trading in my WRX next week for G35c and I hope im not going to encounter any bad vibes from Z owners. C'mon its the same damn car, can't we all get along??

I am considering purchasing one of these cars and so I have been reading up on them and have had both out on a test spin. Anyhow, many years ago, back when muscle cars where the thing. I recall reading an article in one of the mags where they had a number of people driving 2 identical cars except for...One had headers and cherry bombs and the other had a full exhaust but a few other little mods to give it slightly more power than the first car. It was also much quieter. They had the folks track (1/4 mile) both cars and also drive them around on the street. After the drive and trip down the track they had to pick out which car had more power without knowing their times. Every single one of them picked out the car with the loud exhaust as having more power than the quieter one despite the fact that they all had better times in the quieter car. I guess that stuck in my head because it was the first time I read about and began to understand the difference between real performance and the perception of performance. They of course are not the same thing. The truth is if you take a car that is otherwise the same, cept for 200 lbs, the lighter car on average will win every time when driven equally well. It will because it must. Physics work. Two things come to mind here. IMO you should not discount sound as being a major factor in your impression of the vehicle. Secondly, in my elderly mind the real world performance difference between these cars is very slight and it is not really a factor in my purchasing decision. The personality of the cars is quite different and this will be the thing which sways me one way or the other.

It is not a sports car. It's a sport coupe/sedan. I'm not saying your engine is weaker ,because it's not, but the weight is definitely an issue. Unless , you take out your back seat , spare tire, and whatever else you have to take to make the weight equivalent to the Z, and if your going to do all that to beat a Z, you should have just bought the Z.

Hmmm, not sure I agree with that logic. For $2k, you can get a decent set of rims that will cut 20lbs off unspring weight off a G35C to make it theoretically 'lighter' than a 350Z. However, there is no simple way you can make a 350Z carry 4 people regardless of how much money you spend.
