Production Numbers question
I have a friend here at work trying to land a G35c, but the dealer they're working on is claiming that Infiniti is limiting the production numbers to 11k/year. Is this accurate? I'm guessing this is just a dealer tactic, but can anyone confirm? Does anyone know of a good site to find production number information of the various auto makers?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Total G35's for last year was about 65,000 with about 60% of those being sedans(36,000 sedans and 29,000 coupes). Nissan/Infiniti publishes this on their corporate site. This compares with about 37,000 350Zs sold last year. Keep in mind that most 350Zs are manuals and very few G35s are manuals. The manual transmissions for G35s are very limited because Z orders get priority for them at the factory, likewise it is hard to get an auto Z because G35's get the priority. Only about 10% of the G35 production are 6MTs.
It really depends on the context of how the dealer was talking to you and the specifics as to whether or not he was lying. Since January, they have sold aobut 11,000 coupes this year. They obviously make a lot more coupes than but, but the # of 6MTs is a fraction of that.

We're probably looking at the same corp page(s) - they're selling around 2000 coupes per month on average. No problems getting a 6MT here (CT), just expect it to be loaded - a few cloth w/o upper options packages, but most 6MT's are Leather with Sunroof, Premium Packages, etc. A lot like the 350Z, you don't see base models with 6MT at rock bottom option packages unless you order it.
Earlier this year Nissan actually sold more G35 Coupes in one month than they did Z's in North America. Can't find the numbers, but I believe it was in March.
Not to knock the Z as I've had both and liked them immensely, but the Infiniti is a more refined car, still performs well, mine actually dyno'd 235 whp stock, just as good as most the Z's coming though the same shop - which is all I would compare it to, since dynos vary so much in how they are used, what type, etc.
No complaints here

Check Harte Infiniti's web site - Hartford, CT, or West Haven, CT - was just there for regular service last week:
http://www.harteinfiniti.com/index.asp
The only show one G35SC AT on their site, surprising as there were at least a dozen new coupes on the lot last Friday, maybe sold already, who knows. I had a lot to choose from when I picked up my 2004 6MT, but that was 12/30/2003.
The sales site I found was here:
http://www.infinitinews.com/corporat...03020940.shtml
They don't show production numbers but have detailed units sold for NNA.
Note 11.2% drop in 350Z sales Arpil 2004 vs. 44% increase in G35 SC sales - still more units in April for Z's - 3100 vs. 2500 coupes, but overall 350Z sales in NNA are off 15% YTD over 2003, while Coupes are up 21%.
Kinda explains why your friend may be having some trouble finding what he wants - it's pretty unusual to see the Inifiniti model of a Nissan tracking nearly 1:1 YTD with the Nissan brand car.
Cars like the Maxima, Murano, etc. outsell their closest Infiniti counterparts 2:1.
