Default Tall drivers: move that rearview mirror out of your way

I'm a bit over 6'4" and the rearview mirror always seems like it is in my line-of-sight. It's annoying in general, but for anyone who has ever tracked a car or autocross and practices the "look-ahead" mantra, then it is downright frustrating. Last week I took the rearview mirror off the mount and drove around for a couple of days. Not having to duck below or peer around the mirror was a nice change, but I really did miss the ability to look directly behind me in that rearview mirror.

So, I took a close look at the mirror and realized it actually has two points of articulation (joints): the upper and the lower (see attached pic). The lower point is a loose joint that allows for normal adjustment. At first I thought the upper joint was fixed, but it can be adjusted with some muscle. I took the mirror off the mount using a T15 torx driver for fear of pulling the mount off the window while I adjusted it.

As you can see in the picture, I was able to change the angle of the upper joints such that the mirror almost touches the headliner, gaining about 2 inches of unobstructed vision. So, this is the best compromise I could find between removing the mirror and still being able to see out my rear window (cop spotting, etc.)

Heck, this might not even bother most tall G drivers, but as I said, it annoyed me to have it hanging in my line-of-sight blocking the apex of a corner, the car pulling out ahead of me, the traffic light above me, etc.

Hope this helps...

Default viewed from the front...

As you can see, the mirror is now almost even with the headliner.

haha....that's pretty creative....

well, i'm 6'2'' and the mirror doesn't really bother me that much...only when i'm waiting at the freeway onramp, it sorta blocks the stoplight....can't quite see the light change unless i duck under the mirror...
