Hi guys,

I also bought the TS headers when they had the GB for $230.... Really good price. I also got in on the Street Image GB for header install $360 with OEM gaskets. Another really good price.

I also had the same anxiety about installing them because of the less than impressive gains reported on other shorty headers. With only 2 dynos posted, I did as much analysis as I could and was waivering back and forth on weather or not I should take the plunge.

As I PM'ed to another member of this forum....

If the headers I have (are like borla) produce nearly nothing for HP or TQ there are several BIG reasons not to install them.

1) 2.5 hour round trip drive to the dyno shop for a pre-installation dyno.
2) A $50 dyno.
3) 3 hour round trip drive (with wife and baby) to the header installation shop with 2 cars to drop off the G35.
4) The cost of installation at $360
5) A 3 hour round trip drive the following day (with wife and baby) to the installation shop with 2 cars to bring it home.
6) Another 2.5 hour RT drive to the dyno shop for a post-installation dyno.
7) Another $50 dyno.
8) The Infinity 60K mile warranty goes in the trash.
9) Significantly increased under the hood temperatures.
10) I live in CA and it would not be carb legal so there is a small amount of risk in that respect.
11) If the headers really don't make enough power to justify leaving them in, voiding warranty, with needlessly increased underhood temps and risking problems with the PoPo. It's back to the install shop to put everything back to original condition. More time. More money.

I'm sure you and many others have been through this scenario too many times to not appreciate the effort that goes into it. It all adds up.
Well I was on the fence but eventually figured. WTF just do it.

I'm taking the G to Street Image tomorrow morning for header install and after that I'll get it redynoed in the next day or two and post results here.
We will see....

BTW I made a couple of heat shields for the headers. It should help under the hood temps a little and mabey even obstruct the view of the headers if Mr. PoPo asks to look under the hood. And yeah the heat shield covers up some great looking headers but I didn't by em for looks.

Is there really that much of a difference with heat between stock and aftermarket headers? Is this still true with the crawfords, dc sports and nismos?

There certaintly is. The stock headers are compact and very well shielded. Aftermarket headers blast heat and thermal radiation all over the place.

Is this true with all aftermarket headers. Is it serious enough to void your warranty? I dont see how it could be

Nismo may not and Stillen may not at some dealers but otherwise many dealerships will deny warranty at the first chance.

Well, I just tried calling my dyno shop again but they aren't answering for some reason. If I can't get my car dynoed before tomorrow 11:00 AM I'll have to reschedule header install to January 7.

Another testament for the Crawford headers is that the 350EVO race Z has been running Crawford headers since they first tried them out. They are now trying to develop their own design, but their design looks to be one that will cost closer to $2000 per set due to the more expensive collectors they plan to use, which is the weakest link of the Crawford headers. Good collectors add a lot of cost. You are not going to find a lot of information about people using one header then switching to another. The install is such a PITA that once a set is in, they usually stay in. I believe Crawford was actually willing to eat the install costs if mjedens was not happy with the Crawfords over the Nismos and if you didn't know already, he had the Nismos up for sale the next day since he made soo much more power. A dyno couldn't be posted since he did not receive a file to post, however when I went to the same dyno shop in TN, I was able to see his dynos and compare them to mine.

My Top Speed headers are being installed as I am typing this! The Z will be ready tomorrow, but as others have said, I have a looong round trip to the tuner-2 hours.

TS Headers: $230

Installation:$200 (yep... that's two hundred)

Wife just as excited as me: you know the word.

PRICELESS!

crawford's are equal length, that's what makes them more expensive... although i don't understand why they're triple almost even quadruple the price of other headers

Crawford headers ($1200) + Install (about $400) = $1600... they're the best headers out, but that's a lot of money you can put toward your vortech, which will give you waaay more power

That's awesome.

I was finally able to reach my dyno shop and they said its a go for tomorrow morning at 10.

After the dyno its straight to Street Image for header install. Soon after its a re-dyno to find out whats really up.

Hope to see some good numbers.

Hey guys, if you just get the headers coated with JetHot those underhood temps won't be a problem. No need for heat shields and such. Also, headers tend to have much more limited lifespans compared to the stock manifolds, so getting them JetHot'd will take care of that problem, too.

Yeah, it's an extra $200 for the JetHot process, but it's worth it if you ask me.

how about Nexus Alphaworks headers? didn't they show huge gains? were those verified?

Top Speed headers sure are super cheap tho! but i wouldn't mind paying 1500 for the best headers if it's worth it over the Top Speeds
