header tape
ive heard that wrapping the headers with insulating tape will help keep the underhood temps down some plus give a slight performace boost by keeping the exhuast hotter longer so it gets out faster, anybody else heard this?
Yes it will, but most header companies will not honor their warranties if you use tape. They say(truthfully) that if its not installed properly, the headers will have hot & cold spots which will lead to cracking. I put the tape around my entire z-tube set-up as to keep the air from absorbing heat from the engine. I also put some around my test pipes & y-pipe to see if it wolud cut down on the raspiness they produce.(didn't help)
I've heard the same. I actually called DC Sports about wrapping my headers, and they said it would crack the headers within a year due to the heat variances and inconsistencies. They actually recommended Jet Hot 2000 for the Z's headers, since Jet Hot coats the inside and outside of the headers.

header companies wont honor warranties if header tape is used. The tape is good to help keep underhood temps down, but in some cases can trap too much heat in and cause a crack or two. I've rarely seen this however, and it's usually never a big deal to wrap them.
