Default ........TS Headers and HELIX HF cats......pics

Thought I would share some pics of my new TopSpeed Headers and Helix HF Cats... before I send them out to JETHOT for coating. Yes, it's a shame they won't be so BLING, BLING, but heat reduction and stealth is a must!

Thank you to everyone who helped me!! I've learned so much this past month in this particular forum... I probably would have gotten ripped off if I would have gone to Nissan and said hook me up at their parts department. They would have said, "ok, that will be $2500 for this set of parts and another $500 for install, credit or cash sir"

FYI... for those looking for a similar setup

SS TopSpeed Headers ($225-275 shipped)... ebay...seller/deluboyzparts...or one of our sponsors.

SS HELIX DNA HF Cats 200cell ($445 shipped)... Hopupracing... one of our sponsors.

JetHot 2000k... JETHOT.com... est. cost for coating everything ($325 shipped)

So your going to coat the cats too. I thought about that since my TS headers came coated by the person I bought them from. The only reaon I may not is that the Helix cats do have a thermal shield canister by design so I don't think they will be a major heat problem. I can't believe it's been 2 months since I bought these items and still no time to install......................

I hear ya... I won't be able to install these for almost two months either. Memorial Day weekend... That's when I have access to my buddies full blown garage. I'll be installing my RS*R springs around that time too, plus shaving fenders. Freakin back ordered

Anyway, I decided to get them coated for an extra $100. I figured they sit half way into the engine bay and heat does rise...especially in summer traffic at (2+ mph.). I know HELIX says they have a thermal barrier, but when I looked them over it seems as if it's just the piping, single-wall canister, and the 200 cell metal substrate. Regardless, I love them.

I'm most likely going to leave them installed when I go in for IL. emissions too. So I think they'll have a better chance at passing the visual test being black, especially with 4yrs of grime on them

Have you installed the Helix cats yet? I have them too but they are touching the chassis and rattles like ****, the whole car vibrates and the sound from interior is terrible. from outside it sounds just like stock, a bit louder.

Awesome setup, I'm looking at the same thing.

Just missing the cats. for total of ~700$(without jethot) best bang for the $, without a doubt. A reflash is a must though.

I have not installed them yet... HELIX said you may have to modify a little bit for the cats to fit perfect, but they only mentioned doing this to the G35...? I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Turbogt,

no sound issue = TP + lots of performance
some sound issue = TP/resonators + lots of performance
sound issue and staying semi-legal = HF cats + performace with 200 cel substrates

ps thanks Nano

is a "reflash" really a "must" with header+HFcats? will the car start to run too lean?

i dont see everyone here rushing for a reflash after they claim they've installed cats/header....

not being sarcastic,, i just wanna know for my own future consideration when budgeting.

jkoc,

I'm not a 100% you have to get a reflash with HF cats/headers. I would say you could chance it... but it's your motor in the long run. I am chancing it right now with a CAI/Plenum spacer. The engine's sound and change in power indicates more air being forced into the front end of the motor. It actually concerns me... it's fine during normal cruising, but when I get on it, wow! I am seriously considering it shortly after the HF Cat/Header install in a month. I believe it will be absolutely necessary with the increased air flow thru the front and back end of the motor. I would rather just play it safe and have them change my A/F mixture according to my specific mods. $600 is change in comparison to replacing costly parts that went bad to denotation. Plus I will have a raised rev and no governed TOP SPEED :P

exactly... and I'm sure you will get a couple of whp too

the point is playing it safe while getting 100% out of your mods

Especially if you plan on running for sustained periods at high rpm outputs.

I thought the Test pipes where the loudest and soundy(word??) and the High Flows where quiet.

Thanks Nice set up you have there.

Thanks...

I think you have to look at the explanation the other way

no sound issue (meaning you don't have a problem with waking up the neighbors late at night) = they can be loud as hell

i'm considering in the future, a TS "limited" flash and then tuning a/f based on apexi SAFCII... i just dont like the idea that TS just gives you a "template" a/f mapping based on your mods.... being in canada, shipping the ecu back and forth for "minor" corrections, is a bad idea.

You know what...after I wrote what I did, I was thinking in the back of my mind the exact same thing you just wrote. "TS "limited" flash and then tuning a/f based on apexi SAFCII..." Also, I was wondering if Nissan or some shop around ChicagoLand could just tweak my A/F ratio after analyzing it to see if it's off in the first place?
Sh*t happens when sending stuff out via mail, doesn't matter who the carrier is... Could you image loosing your ECU in the mail...it would be so expensive to replace (obviously you would insure it for the maximum) but regardless, the downtime for a replacement from NISSAN! I can't imagine not being able to drive my car! It's a daily driver to WORK.
