It's why we all bought the Z in the first place, I guess. Anyway, now that everyone is ragging on ARC, I think they have a real opportunity here. And you have an OPPORTUNITY to become part of the R & D phase thru your comments and opinions.

Almost all car owner are the same when it comes to mods, there is nothing special about Porsche or BWM owners. I have been on many forums and they are all looking for a good value, Vettes, Vipers, NSX's, you name it. They figure they spent enough on the damn car already, why make it a total money pit. Most people have families and lots of other expenses and do not have a bottomless pit of wealth including myself so it makes perfectly good sense to me.

Hmmm, I guess copba1t...I don't know if your agreeing or disagreeing with me? I would have to disagree on the some of the cars you mentioned. M3, porsche, viper, NSX owners have a little surplus of money or they have some major debt because of their purchase. IMO, Z'ers are tight, modding, whatever...you buy a car like one of the ones above and there is a premium on all the aftermarket parts or replacement parts. None of the cars you listed start anywhere even close to the Base Z, excluding the Vette, which is still 19 grand more on average. I would never consider any of those cars, maybe the bare bone 05 vette, when I truly know the potential of the Z with a surplus of cash thrown into it. Big Brake Kit, FI, Forged internals,HP clutch, and 10.5 or 11" rims in back for an extra 20-25 grand....nuf said.

because heatshields are ALWAYS made of aluminum.....get under the car one day and have a look

a carbon fiber heatshield? for pretty looks sure, but it won't be very effective - carbon - true carbon (not a fiberglass overlay) is strong and light...that's it..it does not have any other magical properties

Plastic can work fine if it is thick enough...though space is at a premium at that area of the car.

I would bet this intake works as well (or as worse) as any other intake on the market for this car. The stock intake, from a design standpoint, is very good. - no intake is going to show huge gains on this car, regardless. Now for some, that means a K&N filter and MAF adapter and call it a day for ~$100 (ala the Popcharger). For others, they want something with a bit more show, and from maybe a bit more exclusive of a company (ala Gruppe-M, ARC, etc). Neither camp is wrong, and neither camp is right

The air box looks great. I also really like the "unfinished" look of the FSTB. Who makes the version you have?

I think the people who thought of this are dumb. It looks like they are trying to make some kind of ram air system. What was the point of making it out of metal and screws. That would be extremely cost ineffective to the company as well as consumers. The same product could be made with plastic or fiberglass for a fraction of the cost and time needed to produce that metal box. Not to mention weight savings. Ive seen homemade ram air systems that seem to be better designed than the one above. I guess the only thing that would out put this debate to rest would be some comparative dyno numbers and intake temperatures. However, even if the dyno gains show a 3-5hp gain is the price of the product really worth it?

It will most definitely sell. Now it won't sell to the majority of owners on MY350Z who buy the Pop Charger just cause it is the cheapest intake. It will sell to the people who want to do an ARC theme like the pics posted or the people that only buy genuine JDM parts. I know that I would buy that intake if I was going for an entirely JDM theme.

Welcome to Club Si, err My350Z.COM

ARC and cost effective do not coexist - they do not produce parts to sell to the masses - they produce high end parts that appeal to a limited segment of the market. The difference is their parts of of the highest quality, are designed to perform a certain way and/or look a certain way, and are produced without flaws of any kind. The company makes $100 oil caps for god's sake - that should tell you everything you need to know!

Yeah, I am sure that aluminum box is adding so much weight vs plastic......let's be realistic here!

As for dynos, I think its been well proven that they all perform the same - that is to say, minimal to no gains vs stock - and yet people still buy them (myself included), for whatever reason they deem necessary.

As for the homemade ram air/cold airs, yes I am sure they are every bit as effective.....but they are, after all homemade, and that is not something everyone wants on their car.

Those who don't get it, just don't get it. These level of parts are not for everyone by any means - just like a $7500 stereo system is not for everyone, just as $2000 Titanium exhausts are not for everyone, just as $4000 HRE's are not for everyone. It is all in the same vein as far as I am concerned.

Except for the vents in the top of the box that would suck hot air from the engine compartment. That sort of defeats the purpose of the product.
But, i agree. It's all about a certian look with ARC instead of making a product that is wallet friendly.

Just remember, our government buys 800.00 hammers.
