Default Which Plenum?

Which is a better buy?

1. Kinetix Plenum Intake. $320
This new intake plenum replaces the upper half of your factory intake manifold. This plenum bolts directly up to your car with zero modifications, and also allows the use of the factory strut bar, and engine cover.

2. AAM Spec Angled Plenum Spacer. $250
Proprietary ANGLED Design Provides Additional Air Flow to the Front Cylinders
Retains Factory Strut Bar and Engine Cover
Stock-like Appearance

3. or should i go with something else?

just go buy a cast crawford

one piece design, wont crack like kinetix, less chance of leaks like AAM and any spacer-like design, and its 350$ vs 249$ aam. your car is worth 100$ more.

I have not heard of any leaking from the Motordyne spacer, it comes with ALL the parts you need and cost 150 in the group buy.

Crawford is nice BUT you have to get their strut bar or a different type so it will clear the Plenum

...but wont you need their strut bar which is like another $150+ and isnt there some extra modification that needs to be done also?

I havent researched it, but I thought that Kinetix solved the cracking problem in the V4 plenum. I have it and love it. If you are planning on doing FI maybe you would want something else, but I would recomend the Kinetix.

this is the thing about plenums. everything i hear for N/A motors is very minimal differences in power gain between the different options. i feel the biggest thing to do is simply get a bigger plenum. how you go about that up to you.

i know the AAM angled spacer and the Motordyne plenum spacer keep the stock strut bar and you only have to use the hood spacer if you want the XL 1/2" spacer.

personally i went for the 1/4" motordyne spacer for several reasons, it looks stock, easy to install, very cheap, decent gains.. if you really want to spend an extra 200, 300, or even $600 for your plenum for 2-3whp go for it. ill put that money towards something else like sway bars.

HarvesterUT:

But wouldn't people say that the spacer will possibly cause the air leakage at all? Would that cause more problem to the engine later? I am right now choosing between the full replacement or the spacer right now, and with different point of view will be helpful! Thanks!

cheers,

richie

Or you could wait until Tuesday when NA dyno numbers are released on this bad boy. Not only does it replace you upper plenum, but it also replaces your lower plenum. It was originally designed for F/I applications, but they are hoping gains from NA apps. And if you plan on going F/I in the future, this will be a must have item. I believe Kinetix is hoping for gains around the V4 plenum range. There will be a GB on it starting Tuesday or Wed. It will be pricey at $725 shipped, but it looks awesome.

Z350Lover,

i have not read anything about a leaking plenum unless it's cracked (ie plastic). the stock plenum is 2 parts with a gasket between them i think. the new spacer places a 2nd gasket between it and the upper plenum. if the stock 2 piece plenum doesnt leak i dont know why this set-up would.

i like what kinetix is doing and their new plenum is HAWT. however until we see ANY N/A numbers and a dyno im not interested in a $725+ plenum. i cannot justify an extra $600 over a $150 spacer.

$150 spacer = avg 2-5rwhp
$725 plenum = (guessing) avg 4-8rwhp

of course its not simply about peak HP/TQ. if the new plenum loses alot down low i will not be interested as i want as much low-end as possible

There was a big thread over at g35driver on this and trust me it was a heated topic.
From what I have been able to see is its a toss up on the Plenum's. The spacer has shown some real good figures on the dyno. Its safe to say the Crawford works also. The drag racers use short runners with a plenum that is sized for the bore and stroke of the engine.
(Cam timing plays a part here) The more Cubic inches the bigger the volume in the plenum needs to be to feed the cylinders. Its a toss up right now with the too. IM looking at the new Kinetix and she sure is wonderful looking. My belief is this new design with the runners and the volume may surprise a lot of people. Lets just wait for a dyno test. D
