Let me tell you, for someone who doesn't know their *** from their elbow, it only took me an hour and a half to install it and I only stripped 1 of the screw holes! Be extremely carefull though, the instructions aren't kidding when they say go easy on the bolts as it is easy to strip the threads inside. I had a single small leak that was easily heard in the number 5 bolt in the top of the plenum, a simple tightening and I was done. Let me tell you, I can feel the difference in the upper RPMs, its not a SOTP torquey difference as much as it threw off my shifting calibration. The RPM's jumped up slightly more and I haven't pinged the limiter on my 1-2 or 2-3 shifts in over 2 months and I did twice as soon as I got it out today. I'd definately reccomend this mod to anyone interested and I can easily say that I was pleased with AAM's customer service and the packaging/instructions are GREAT. Thanks again Dave at Altered

I've been trying to decide for three days what to do. The AAM spacer or the Crawford plenum. On one hand the spacer has twice the chance of a leak because there are two seams but it's HALF the price of the Crawford plenum and strut bar.

I can assure you that leaking because of 2 seems won't be a problem, just follow the instructions or have it professionally installed. I just added gutted Random Tech High Flows today to compliment the spacer and let me say my topend power has risen a LOT, a friend of mine who had an 04' GTO with just a CAI used to walk me from a 40 roll as soon as we hit about 85-90, I just raced him tonight after he installed a new throttle body and I hung right with him, no pulling this time Definately worth the money.

 

the only issue with leaking on the plenum is if you strip a bolt or dont use the right size in the right place.

 

does the AAM come with all the bolts, etc like the motordyne now?

 

It came with all the bolts, just don't overtighten and you're cool. Though I only striped a relatively unimportant bolt, the 6 in the plenum itself seemed strong and hard to strip.

Good thing it's a three day weekend because I'm going to be busy.

The AAM spacer, KJR crank pulley, Hawk brake pads, oil change, wash, vac, and another coat of Zaino. If I don't be careful I may get all sweaty.

I probably hold off on the pulley so that I can evaluate the spacer by itself.

 

I am currently debating with the Crawford cast plenum vs the AAM spacer. The crawford cast plenum (not including the strut bar) is only $100 more expensive than the spacer and it has shown proven gains of 20rwhp on a FI engine. Does anybody know of what kind of gains I could expect from the 1/4 inch AAM spacer on my FI engine? I'm thinking it should be close, but not sure...

 

How did you get only $100 more? The plenum is $350 and the strut bar is $150. Oh, did you know that the stock strut bar won't work? So, it's really twice as much because you probably wouldn't change the strut bar unless you had to.

I'm planning to go with a different strut bar than stock anyways and I don't like the Crawford strut bar, so I wouldn't be buying that. I'm only considering the plenum itself.

 

Go with AAM, I don't have my strut bar back on yet, and I haven't noticed that big of a difference, but I will be putting it back on at its tightest setting for my road trip coming up.

 

Is the strut bar for the Z absolutely necessary? I know the G35 coupe doesn't have one so why would you need one for the Z?

 

It just helps with chassis stiffening. More response and crisper turn in. Whether that is noticable on the street or not is debatable depending on your driving style.
