Default Leaky exhaust. What problems will it cause?

I'm pretty convinced that my Borla exhaust has developed some leaks. Big suprise. Mostly it's noticable on decceleration, particularly when I'm in manual mode and shift 3-2 while keeping the revs a little higher than normal. A whooshy sound can be heard from under the passenger side floorboard. Also, when I floor it I can hear a sound similar to a BOV during shifts. There's not been a noticable power decrease. Another thing that has been happening lately is a strange "slow" start when the car is cold. Usually when I turn the ignition the engine roars to life. It's a quick action. The "slow" start is just that. Instead of the burst during the startup the engine slowly lumbers and then settles into idle. I'm going to have the exhaust welded next week and hope this fixes some of the issues. So what is so bad about having an exhaust leak? What are the specific dangers?

Oh good. No problems then.

So nobody has ever had a leaky exhaust welded? How does it affect power and fuel efficiency if at all?
