Default A TRUE Dual Exhaust

I'm still a bit new to this so please bear with me on this one...

It seems that with two exhaust banks and two headers it would be more efficient to flow the exhaust into two separate pipes straight to the back of the car. Of course this is a good way to lose some backpressure, but with F/I some of that loss is necessary to attain larger numbers up top.

Are there any TRUE dual exhaust systems like this on the market today? Pros and cons of one like this vs. a single pipe that is split into two?

I was playing around with ‘the numbers’ one day from information I scavenged from the net on calculating what size exhaust is needed. I have an ‘Tailpipe Calculator’ on my website that resulted from this. I’m curious how the data generated by the program actually relates to the ‘real world’.

Injen Super SES Cat-Back Exhaust System above

There are several good sites about exhaust 101 and exhaust theory. The objective of the exhaust system is to move hot exhaust gasses away from the engine unimpeded. Other requirements such as noise dampening and environmental considerations hamper the primary objective rather than enhance performance. So for a street legal car, the exhaust system must:

Exit the car behind the rear wheels.

Dampen noise level. Resonator and muffler. Each use a different noise dampening method.

Reduce specific emissions: catalytic converter.

So each exhaust system is a compromise. The idea exhaust is short and straight. Look at the systems available for the 350Z, and select a system which suits your needs. Happy shopping.
