Since a test pipe is just an empty pipe, it might seem like no brainer to buy the cheapest that you can find. But “cheap” will get you substandard welds and poor fit. And your sure do not want to be under the car trying to force a poor fitting pipe between the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe.

Buy from a major aftermarket source with a proven track record. Save yourself a BIG headache.

Very well put. Do not waste your time or money on cheap Ebay stuff. Stick with a reputable manufacture. You can get quality pipes for $150-170 if I remember correctly.

Was thinking about these right here, the only thing that conerns me is the Check Engine light issue, my car is an 05. If it comes on, does it change any aspects of the car, someone was telling me the car runs rich likes its cold, any input?? I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for

I got my cheapo TP resonated pipes from eBay for less than $80 shipped(too cheap to pass 'em up by). I'm gona install them tomorrow. If they turn out to be shi*tty then I'll just save up for the HFC.

I have a 5AT with a pop charger and test pipes. Sounds like crap, smells like ****, and makes the car feel a bit faster on top end. Feels like a loss of torque on bottom end. Will take to the track in the next few weeks to see what if any. Oh yeah, the SES light came on after a couple of days. Haven't tried to fix that problem yet.

go for a helix or kinetix those seem to be more reasonable price and good quality

Most likely you will get a CEL. Remember that you are no longer cleaning emissions (no catalytic converters).

I just pulled a set of helix off a car and they are absolute junk.

Helix are fine.

helix, APS, or labree are all good choices for test pipes

You said helix are junk and then you said they are fine. Must have been a Fruedian thing.

Kinetix junk? They looked good to me before they went on.

Sorry about the typo - was going through the forums fast.

KINETIX are junk. fitment seemed to be OK, but the resonators, and welds were crappy at best -

helix are fine
Labree are GREAT
APS are GREAT.

With nothing to compare to, the kinetix are fine. See a good set of test pipes and you will know they are junk.

Really sounds like crap? What does it do to the note of the exhaust? Also, do you smell it when you stop at a light, what do you smell strong odor of exhaust?

If the CEL is on in my 05, does it change any dynamics of the car?? less fuel, more fuel, higher idle? Thats all I am wondering, the smell or sound probably wouldnt bother me too much, unless its really bad lol.

I was also wondering about the Megan pipes, my friend just got some but he has HKS Ti exhaust, which I plan on getting someday....Thanks for info, I really want to know if I should do the pipes with stock exhaust, or just wait and get full exhaust. Hope everyones christmas was good!

i have heard the helix on two stock exhaust Z's. Both sound more than exceptable. You throw an aftermarket y-pipe on a stock exhaust and even with the labrees it will sound TERRIBLE - heard in person.

CEL on due to the rear o2s doesn't change anything you need to worry about. It might change the fuel map a tiny bit, nothing you would notice or see in terms of a dyno chart.

The smell is a little much at first, but really isn't that bad. spend your money on a decent set of TP, like the APS ones if not the labrees

Thanks Ziv, bubble, everyone appreciate the help, I believe in you get what you pay for, so Ziv you got any links to the APS or labree test pipes??

Thanks for that link bubble, if the other ones dont work out I will go with those, did you get a chance to use those on the stock exhaust??

So a possible change in the timing, I think Ill call nissan to double check but that is what I heard as well, just want to make sure I am not gaining a few horses at the cost of a bigger problem. I think with my 285's, good driving and test pipes I should be mid 13's in the 1/4! Cant wait to get to the track with the new goodies, thanks for the help again.
