How to adjust exhaust tip height? (mine are a bit uneven)
I put my Nismo exhaust on last night and my left tip hangs a bit lower than my right. While I know a man's car often reflects the man, I'd rather not have my car mimic this particular anatomical trait
, so I'd like to rectify the problem. Any idea of how to do this myself?
I've seen exhaust shops heat the exhaust tip piping and jam a long pry-bar in it and bend it into position, but I'd rather not do this to my beautiful new Nismo exhaust; I'd rather bend the hanger, but am not sure how I would do this. Any ideas?
Also, the thing is way quieter than I thought it would be; just barely louder than stock and a bit deeper; does it loosen up a bit as it breaks in?

How much does it hang lower? If it is minimal I do know a trick to raise up the tips. You put a hose clamp around the rubber hanger and tighten it until it reaches the desired height. If one side hangs too low you may have to bend the hanger or use some other method.
best way to go about it is torch the left side of hanger and bend it..
the z exhaust is a lil wierd.
we only have 3 hangars on the muffler where as say an rx8 similar setup has 4 hangars.

Well, I crawled under there and got a better look when I got home today. It's the right side that really is a bit too high and needs to come down by about a quarter inch. That's the side with two hangers, but I think it'll pivot ok by just bending the rear one down. Problem is getting to it. I'll likely have to pull the muffler and a few pieces at the back corner underneath to be able to get to the bolts that hold the bracket on, remove it and bend it. Looks like a big PITA. Might have to take it to a shop after all...
I could probably bend the left one up easier, but I can't even get a finger between the right tip and the bumper snd I eventually want to add the V1 rear skirt; I don't thenk there'd be enough room for it if I tucked both tips that close.

Heh, slipped back in under the radar, huh? Just keep a low profile for a while, man.
Exhaust is good; finally got it on Wed night. I installed it myself; only took a bit over an hour to do. Nice low tone, but not as loud as I thought it would be. Throttle response is improved and I can maybe feel a tiny more bit of pull up top. Wasn't expecting too much for gains with only 6HP and 4TQ, but I bought it more for looks and sound and it compliments my intake mods and other Nismo bits nicely.
I've seen a few other posts recently about people's exhaust having the driver's side lower than the other with diff. exhausts, so it's deff. a hanger issue, not the exhaust or install. I'm hoping I can just pull the muffler and be able to reacch up and crank down on the pass. side hanger enough to bend it down a bit, otherwise more disassembly will be required to get it out and bend it.
Ok, just made the adjustment yesterday and it was pretty easy. I had to pull the muffler back of (first, noting how much I wanted the pass side tip to drop). Once the muffler was off, I removed the heat shield above it (it was in the way of sliding the rubber hanger of the rear pass side hanger bracket). Then I lubed up the rubber hanger and pulled it off the bracket. Once this was done, I just took a two foot length of hollow pipe, slipped it over the end of the bracket and cranked down on it a little at a time. I had a ruler under there with me, so I could see how much I was bending it down. Once I had bent it enough, I simply reassembled everything and now it looks perfect. Took less than an hour.
If you do this and have a hard time estimating how much to bend the bracket, I would suggest bending it down a bit further than you think is neccessary. If it's then too low after it's all back together, there's enough space to fit a 1X1 piece of wood up against the bottom of the bracket and you can bend it back up to where it needs to be by raising the wood against the bracket with a jack. This way if you didn't bend it enough to begin with, you wouldn't have to take it all appart again to bend it more; I just got lucky and got it perfect the first try.
