Question: After I install it, should I do all the resets that are in the instruction book? AND How many miles do I need to drive after install?

Note: I ordered Motordyne 5/16 Plenum Spacer & Iso-Thermal Gasket Kit from PN and should be here on Monday, I hope all the gaskets (HELL ALL THE PARTS) are in the box..

Reading this thread started to scare me, I hope I have no problems with the MD Spacer or PN!

I am a little touchy about my brand new 06 ss 350z touring with only 1000 miles on it.

Wait a min.... I am praying..................................................... .

The resets are listed as "optional" in the installation manual.

Install it and the gains are instant.

when the instructions say you can also hand-tighten the bolts, it should register that its not ft-lb.

Yes, true.

Inch pounds are almost nothing in terms of force. This is also why the instructions say to not use a regular socket wrench.

Unless you are a professional Sumo wrestler, if you use a nut driver when you turn it as hard as you can (by hand), thats about 90-100 inch pounds.
The skin on your hands will sting after applying 80 inch pounds...
If you try to do the whole plenum like this, (without leather gloves) your hands would be completely raw.

A regular socket wrench can easily do 10-15X more torque than a nut driver. And this is how M6 bolts can break. If the bolts broke at 60 ft-pounds (720 inch-pounds), thats really good for such a small bolt.

So if you don't have a Inch-Pound torque wrench, find yourself a 10mm nut driver and a pair of leather gloves and you are good to go. You won't be breaking any bolts unless you are Mike Tyson freaked out on roids and PCP.

Those inch-lb micro torque wrenches are like $70.. at least at OSH

I printed a copy of the instructions off of the MD site yesterday, and now studying it front to back... twice!!!!

You ever heard the saying "measure twice, cut once" Well I am reading twice and installing once..... RIGHT!

I got the whole Inch-Pound torque thing... That is in the secion of tools needed. Friend has one.

What about all the A/F problems I am reading about here? I understand that the reset are listed as "Optional", but there are like 5 different resets?.?

How do I know I need to do one of these resets... (Car not starting, running, ruff idle, engine blowing up) What?

The instructions just list how to do it. It does not say in what order, or if this happens, do this!

Sorry about the post in this thread with an attitude, But I hope to get the kit on Monday, and want to be ready..... AND DO IT RIGHT!!

Maybe you missed the part about the cause being an over oiled Pop Charger.

Don't just read the instructions with an attitude. Understand what you are reading before starting.
The last page says what to do to fix a rough idle. You need to do all of it in the order listed. If you still have a problem the instructions say to contact us.


The spacers always work well and never cause a problem if installed correctly. ..."100% of the time"
The only time there is a problem is if something else is the cause.

you'll be fine buddy. its a pretty simple mod to do urself. but honestly, if ur so worried about it, then maybe you should just leave stock, stock!

I'm pretty damn sure that my A/F problem was not because of the Spacer.
Like mentioned above in my post, I'm betting my money on my over-oiled
Pop Charger filter that resulted in contaminated MAF.
Once both the MAF and Pop Charger was properly cleaned, the car runs
without any of the symptoms described in my original thread starter post.

Before the cleaning, my exhaust pipe barely got dirty, meaning the car was
running lean.
After the cleaning, my exhaust pipe is once again getting dirty, which is a good sign.

I will post another dyno chart after I get it dynoed sometime next week.
I'm pretty sure results will be positive this time.

i didt know about the foot / inch thingy , first time i use torque wrench i saw lbs then i started to work with it :P, do you please know any place online offers these bolts or any OEM replacemets bolts, thanks in advance.

I took a factory bolt to my local Ace hardware and find a matching bolt. Other suggestion if you wat to spend the money is locate the part number and order them through your local Nissan service/parts dept.

man !MD people are good !now a day u won't find any aftermarket parts maker are as good as the MD people in terms of after sale service and support!!!!i like the way they do business if later on MD come up with any other parts for the z i 'll buy it no mater what !by the way i just got a set of mrev+ for my 06 z hope i don't have any problem installing them

My brother-in-law and I installed the Motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer today. He has a garage and tools - very convenient.

The directions are pretty much straight forward. I skipped several pages because parts do not apply (such as the thermal thing). I urge installers to read one step ahead to figure out where the long and short bolts go. The torque instructions (for those of use who do not own a inch pound torque nut driver) are easy. With a hand nut driver its next to impossible to break bolts.

The car runs well. With an additional 5 hp its hard to tell with my butt dyno. I have a SES light but no big deal. Every time I mess with the engine I get a SES light. Very pleased with the quality of materials, and straight forward installation.

Hopeful hint: you remove the upper plenum and set it to the side (throttle body still connected). Take a S-hook and cord. Place the S-hook in the hood, and tie the upper plenum to the hook. That will keep it out of the way while you work.
