Test pipes make all the difference with this exhaust.

I had the muffler shop make a custom true dual with two resonators and its perfect now. Not too loud, not too quiet, just right.
that's pretty ironic... so basically you went from an x-pipe system to a true dual... most ppl, including myself, have gone the other way around... clearly goes to show that sound is entirely subjective

it's disappointing to hear that the evo2 can't handle test pipes properly though

can't wait to hear those sound clips nonetheless

I mean, the sound was badass with just test pipes and the system except for that one whistling can sound that was being caused by the x-pipe. Here is what was causing it.

As you can see, if you dont have cats there is just too much exhaust pressure going into one pipe. The first part of that single section is small, so its smaller than any aftermarket y-pipe. That is what causes the unusual noise.

If greddy simply redesigned it so both pipes connected into one huge section without a reduced section before it, it wouldnt have a weird whistling sound.

ah ok i understand now

what do you estimate the diameter of the joint(s) to be? is the piping 2 1/4 on each side, merging into another 2 1/4 pipe?? if so that's smaller than stock! that would probably explain the aforementioned whistling

I havent measured the diameter but its clear that the pipes should meet a few inches further away. There isnt much room from the test pipes to the conversion point. At first when I saw this piece I thought it was a resonator, but when we took it off, we realized it was a hollow exhaust pipe.

Greddy should have had a nicer x-pipe design because this one blows. Everything else in the kit is great except there are too many freakin pieces and its annoying lining everything up perfectly so nothing hits the suspension pieces.

Thanks.

The wheels are rota R45R's all around. They are 9.5" wide wheels and honestly I love the nismo wheels but I hate the fact that they cost around 2k dollars without tires.

Do you by any chance know what size the hoses you need to relocate the EVAP?

I have the Greddy Evo 2 with resonated test pipes and I love the sound of it and I get compliments on this exhaust all the time. Good choice.

I think the weird sound is from my camera. I even revved it to 6k and it doesnt seem like 6k on the video. Very weird. Here it is http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ture162687.flv

rasp at all? Sounds like it may be raspy if you have test pipes. sounds good though.
The big can setups like nismo have a weird sound to them. with test pipes, they make this annoying metal in a can sound, which may be attributed to the Z's howling note to begin with. That exhaust is dual can so it doesn't have that sound. sounds like a bear :-D

I wonder what it'll sound like with headers. Any company out there that wants to hook me up with headers let me know.
