Default GearHead Colonge

love my strup test pipes smell is not bad at all on 03 (odbII) equipped 350z. My roomie had a 05 g35 sedan with test pipe and the F*CKER SMELLED. The z I can catch a hint of the exhaust/gas smell now and then but I kinda like it.

Sorry dude, My Nismo/Performance Nissan is your best bet. I dont know who else carries them but run a search at Yahoo for Unlimited Tuning Revoloution (UT-R) they are in New York and should be able to direct you to a distributor local to you. Otherwise if your in SoCal you can get them at Performance but thet dont install them you will need a speed shop for that or DIY. Hope that helps man, good luck.

I noticed the smell too. Not too bad though just an occasional wiff, usually when sitting in traffic. So far Im really liking them just cant wait till my engine break in is over so I can really see the diff. I would normally be in 5th up to like 90mph and if Im in 6th at 80 i would typically down shift to 5th anyway for a spirited take off but Seeing as how I am currently granny shifting it...., I had in 6th this morning goin like 80mph and decided to see what acceleration is like in 6th. Big improvement, I pressed the throttle down like 1/3rd to 1/2 way for like a second or 2 and let off cuz I was already goin 110. In 6th gear that used to take longer, infact Im not sure 5th gear would have got me there that quick before but either way I was impressed.

Not sure about the UTR... but as for the rasp with Labree, it only lasts for about 500 rpms. Right between 2000 and 2500. After that its just a scream. I was so scared after I installed the pipes in fear that my car would sound like a ricer civic. Needless to say, it didnt. Although, you might find yourself shifting earlier, or just avoiding the region in the RPMs that do sound raspy. I've gotten used to it though. One thing I did try was putting in the silencers that come with my Apexi N1 exhaust. I drove around and it sounded like I still had cats on, not test pipes. Didn't like that, so I took them off. But for long trips I will definitely install them, alot quieter and more relaxing.

One thing you will love about test pipes is how FAST your RPMs climb. I use the shift light indicator alot more now so I don't hit the rev limiter. Never had to do that with cats.

I could probly get a video up sometime next week. I have finals all this week and won't be driving the car till next wednesday. If you can wait that long I'll get some drive-by clips, in car, idle, etc.

get HFC... i had unresonated test pipes in my setup and the sound/rasp was unbareable. The only good thing is that id get flames from high rpm acceleration. HFC will pass emmisions and its sounds a lil bit deeper.

I have had cracked Crawford cats, Megan y-pipe, Invidia N1, Kinetix plenum, JWT in the Stillen airbox. I sold everything (no gains without tuning). I kind of enjoy being stock... just looking for a deeper exhaust note.

Expensive Labree "Sebring" or unknown UTR with small resonator...

The location of the resonator before/after the plug must play a roll : fitment, sound/rasp, "visual inspection"...

http://www.i-m-racing.com/exhaustheaders.html

They sell their brand right here for 149 cats or 125 test pipes!

I have a question for my friend that has CAI, cat back exhaust and headers and wanted either the race cats or test pipes but was told he might have to reflash his ecu if going w/ the test pipes.

Test pipes. Just as you mentioned: an empty piece of pipe.
HAHAHAHAH.. you post that pic, everytime there's a word 'cats' on the title thread good pic, though.

These are pretty rough clips. Did them really quickly but here they are...

Stillen SS True Dual Catback + Test Pipes (Stillen Race Pipes)
http://www.diamonus.com/myspace/medi..._RacePipes.mpg

Stillen SS True Dual Catback + AAM HFCs
http://www.diamonus.com/myspace/medi..._RacePipes.mpg

I went with HFCs because the rasp was just too much for me. But then the
Stillen race pipes are not resonated. Also the smell. Some like it, some don't.
I'm neutral because it lessens after a while. But emissions for sure =

The website says that the resonated test pipes wont throw a check engine light for most 03s and some 04s. Any truth to this??
