Default No muffler

I took the muffler of my black track to give it a listen.
I think it sounds absolutely incredible, like a race car.
It is a little loud at high RPM’s at wot. And somewhat raw sounding.
At cruising speed to halve throttle, it’s not very loud at all
The car seems noticeable faster as well.
I’m not sure if this is do to back pressure change or weight loss.
Testing with my G-tech pro comp. Shows about the same HP & TQ with an additional 200 pounds in the car without the muffler. Compared to with the muffler without an extra 200 pounds. If I can reduce maximum sound levels by 20 to 30 % and keep the same sound, I don’t think I could ask for a sweeter exhaust note.

I made a clip. It will be posted as soon as I figure out how to post it.

it has to be hosted on a server, I can only host pics, but someone should be able to help you out.

but Im confused, you said it posted the same hp and torque with 200lbs? wheres the 200lbs? you? so hows you get it without 200lbs?

Id imagine not much of a difference in HP, assuming the ECU tuneing theory is true. it should rev a bit freer, but also lose a bit of low end power and maybe gain some up top.

That is what I was thinking of doing for track days. I'll just go to my friend Jeff over at the muffler shop and have him make me a straight pipe out the back with a hanger. Not really for HP, just weight savings. The stock exhaust is HEAVY! Would anyone be interested in having a batch of these made?

The guy I met at the auto-x that did this, said there was 1hp diff in hp on the dyno between stock, the whole catback removed and just the muffler removed. But it did sound sweet!

Default Stock muffler weight

After reading this thread I weighed my stock muffler w/tips on that is stored in my garage. It weighs 35.5lbs. I assume the Flowmaster and stainless steel quad tips that I now have on probably weigh around 25+ lbs. Only a weight savings of approx. 10lbs. Much less than I had thought. Regards, Jim

I will try to do some more testing with my G-tech.

The sound clip should be up by the end of the day.

pfft straight pipe? remove it at the headers, leave it like that for track days. it will be loud as ****, but I witnessed NEARLY ALL firebird that were at the dragstrip running this setup. you could see the exhaust pulsing the ground under the engine. but honestly for gains, you need new headers.

PERSONALLY, if you want the sound, and whatever gains are there, but not the weight savings,

just flip the switch and you have wide open exhaust, dont have to remove anything, you can even swap it over when you need to remind others that you are not running a fourbanger.

I would like to know how would that work would you have to have t pipes or will it just open the hole and let the exhaust run out right at the end of the second exit pipe?

Whichever you want. You can weld a straight-pipe on the secondary exit if you wish, or just leave it open. I'd probably mount at least some length of pipe to get the exhaust gases out from under the car so you don't gas yourself at slower speeds.

Thisis what I used in my FireHawkElectric Cutout

You open and close it from a dash switch!

No muffler removal required! Just bypass it by pressing the toggle up, then close it when done.

Did it help at all or was it just a lot louder?

It was *very* loud, I won't lie about that, but a good loud, it was A V8.

I lost low end when it was open but I gained .2 tenths in my quarter with a higher trap too.

So it was nice to be sitting beside a stang, Camaro (insert your rev car here) and all of a sudden with a flick of the switch my car doubles it's exhaust output lol.

Also gave me better mpg, and when I saw a cop I just closed it and the car went silent.

Pro's, better mph, better 1/4, higher trap,

cons lower torque, very loud but no drone if you keep your cats.

For 150 for the part and 50 to install it's a great mod/toy.
I like toys and will pay 200 for .2 in the quarter anyday.

Hope this helps. Other manafactures make these by the way, I chose this one based on a better motor in the moving parts (per research)
