Default My plans for custom exhaust - opinions appreciated...

Simply put, will this eliminate/avoid Rasp, yet still give decent power?

Aftermarket headers (not sure which brand yet - or if I'll even buy em at all).
Kinetix Test pipes (resonated)
Magnaflow perferated X-pipe
2.5in piping to...
2.5 in stright thru Thrush Glasspacks
2.5 piping to...
HKS style Angled Mufflers (probably from Vibrant Performance)

Besides the question above... I'd like to know if anyone knows the diameter of the Kinetix pipes? and if they even need to be resonated with the X-pipe (which supposed;y cures all rasp)

Thanks

Rasp is way overrated as a problem.

Several members have put together custom exhausts: some like the result, some do not. With a out-of-the box cat-back exhaust, you know what to expect. If you do not like it, you can always sell it. A custom exhaust is a different story. The results are at best a guess. If you are not pleased, you are stuck with it.

you don't need glasspacks, resonators should be fine or better.

Skip the Kinetix resonated Pipe and go for a header back with resonators in between.

This will end up costing you more than you may expect. I'd suggest looking around for exhaust that already have an X pipe. There are 3 out atm, IMSOLUTIONS exhaust, SVRTECH exhaust and the stillen dual exhaust. They all have x pipes.. the SVRTECH exhaust is headerback w/ built in test pipes, and the other two are catbacks. IMSOLUTIONS and SVRTECH offer them in 2.5 and 3 True dual and stillen is around there too.

I totalled it all up...
Without the Kinetix pipes... here are the costs... (including shipping)

186 - two mufflers
60 - two glasspacks
100 - X pipe

Total is 346 + the exhaust shop to bend piping and weld it up ... figure 300 for that so it's 650 total ... Most exhausts here are lik 800+ without cat pipes. So I think cost is no big deal.

Always remember custom work can be tricky. You have to design the system to work properly with pulse generation and cancellation and absorption - not to mention performance and sound characteristics you are specifically looking for.

You can't just pick a few mufflers and resonators and an x-pipe thinking they will all work together as they are similar in look to what's out there. There is science behind all of this. the pipe, amount of bends and degree of angles, FI and level, NA etc. all play into this.

And that work is not necessarily $800. A custom set of headers can be more than $2000 if you want them done right for a specific purpose. A custom exhaust can cost the same or more, or less as well.

I would not recommend that you just go and buy part unless you know exactly how to design a system like this.

We can help.

I can careless about the rasp as long as they make raw power.

I've heard a few, and I hate to say it... but a nice exhaust note is probably the ONLY thing I'll actually sacrifice a little performance for.
I'd give up 2-5 whp for a nicer sounding daily driven car.

And maybe thats why, because it's daily driven
