Sorry for the kinda useless post... but just wanted to agree with hypersprite if you get it fixed please let us know!

Hah, at least yours was low enough to not bother your 6th gear cruising.

Hey all -

OK - your burning smell is from the oil in and on the pipes from the mandrel bending process...completely normal and it will go away once you drive the car long enough to burn it off. Borla doesn't do a great job at all of wiping the pipes down after the process. Also, if you had use WD40 or anything to loosen some bolts or hangers - that oil is also likely burning off.

The noise at that RPM level is either coming from a sound resonance or the pipes are hitting the rear gas tank heat shield or even the sway bar or bolt above it where the pipes go over it at the right rear of the car. You may need to loosen the system up and twist it a bit to get more clearance.

If it is not a physical hit somewhere on the chassis, it is definitely a sound issue. Borla's system drones pretty decently, and if you don't exactly know what drone is, it is when those low tones of the exhaust are not balanced or tuned properly and can't escape completely through the tailpipes. What happens is the tone actually resonated though the mufflers and resonators to the ground and back up through the cab. As the RPMS are so low, the exhaust velocity is not that high, but the tone could be just enough to buss a heat shield.

Also, the actual Borla stainless pipes are only 18ga thick - that is VERY thin and also allows for those tones to bleed right through the wall of the pipe. They use that pipe for cost and weight savings. It also puts far less stress on the mandrel benders. Most higher quality systems use 16Ga stainless - which is a huge difference.

The hiss and other sound - definitely an exhaust leak. One of the best things you can do if you can't pin point it, is to drive it a few times when that water condensation builds, and then look under that car again. Anywhere there is a leak, you will see black carbon residue - as that water brings the carbon from inside the pipe with it, and then dries on the pipe. You may not see that at all though at the flanges.

Rick

the invida touch the gas tank shield during the install, the installer move the tin as much as he could, and it still rub, i used wire ties and tied it back about 1inch and that seem to help good luck

sounds normal for this exhaust to me...

have to spend more time making sure the pipes are set together better... for the H-Pipe it helps using tie straps and raelly pulling the two pipes together...

some people go as far as welding the whole exhaust...

as far as rattles, you have to make sure to leave atleast an inch around the exhaust so it does not hit your sway bar, cross brace etc etc...

Welding is definitely the way to go, but make sure you get a reputable place to do it or you'll be paying for it to be done twice like me.

Have you tried taking the clamps off or moving them to view where the pipes overlap. I knew I had a leak but nothing visible but then I took a couple of the clamps off I found 3 small pinhole leaks. Had them welded and the hissing sounds went away.

I'm actually considering having all of the piping replaced.. maybe to 16 ga if I can find a decent shop to do it. Also considering replacing the resinators with a dual outlet/inlet resonator/muffler. It's a shame that Borla made such a sh!tty design because the exhaust sounds really good otherwise.
