Default K&N air filter

Does the K&N air filter actually add more horse power or does it just let your engine breathe alot better? If i go about buying a K&N air filter is there a specific one i have to buy for my 350?

I had my z since 12/28 and I have only 900 or so miles on it. The weather has been pretty bad this winter in jersey. It is not just the snow but the salt and roads that suck. Long story short I'm waiting to break the z in before I change the oil, drop in a K&N etc. I put one in my Jeep Liberty and I can say it does feel better, the acceleration is smoother. As far as a specific one, the z has one. Go to the k&n site, they list many online retailers.
