no see, no one is getting any parts or removing anything...simply taking off 2 bolts from the straight pipe that goes into ur mufler..

in esence, ur just driving with str8 pipes and no muffler

for me its alot easier because i removed my resonater(pre muffler before the big one) and i put a flanged 2.5 inch pipe in its place so i can remove and put it back at my will since i dont got the flow for a whole new exhaust.........im gettin my cats removed and puttpin str8 piping though.....

i have what u call.....the poor mans exhaust.
id give u a sound clip, but i got a cough.....da dum dum tish

Got the front resonator cut out. Almost impossible to tell the difference. At idle, and on a drive by, a DB meter said the same thing.

Seems just a little bit harsher when on the throttle, but the difference is so small that it could just be me.

Seems to do no harm, but wouldn't swear it did any good. Interesting - it went to the dealer for its first service ( which included a quick drive ) and they didn't spot it either.

i did this awhile back, although i did something else too. after unbolting the muffler, i didnt want that pipe connected to th resonator just hanging around. so i took off the entire pipe that connects the muffler to the cats. i had a local mufler shop fabricate me a pipe connecting from the 2 cats going a little back then aiming down towards the ground so the fumes arent all gathering up under the car.

so yeah, pretty much the same thing cept i had that custom pipe fabricated that also replaces the resonator. it definitely sounds like a beast, really really loud when u go WOT, hell its even loud if you dont lol.

as far as power goes, i havent had a chance to get the car dyno'd yet but hopefully i will soon. honestly, the car felt like it lost some low end tq because i have a harder time chirping 2nd now. i figured running w/o the muffler is fine since the two cats should supply enough back pressure. maybe its all mental, im not sure. ill tell you this though, ive raced a few other Z's and ive pulled on everyone of em. top end, the car feels stronger definitely. so top end it feels like it gained some kick since theres less air restriction.

If you remove the CATS do you get the MIL light? In "theory" the engine management system will detect the no cats and generate an error. This is part of OBD2 diagnostics which tests for the oxygen storage capacity of the CATS - no converters, no oxygen storage - error. Well thats what the theory says.........

Ok so what do you think about this... I have the Injen SES duel... what if I unhook the two mufflers, it would be running through headers and resonators only I want to hear what that sounds like...

Yes, unbolt the muffler right there at the spot in your picture. You should have enough play to pull apart the muffler and the exhaust pipe to create an opening. I stick in a couple bolts to serve as spacers and then bolt it back together, leaving about a 1/4" opening.

i just did it and i love...a lil to "rice" or aftermarket fart can for my tastes but it probibly doubles the 'loudness' of the exhasut! i think im gonna keep it! i had it completely seperated before and that was toooo loud so i put it back together and its about 1/2" apart now~! sounds good though...extemely loud!

if someone tells me how to post a short vid/sound clip i can.

Ok, I have to ask (because it still has not happened "Someone... ANYONE... post some video or sound clips!!!!!!"

With that said. I am about to walk out and give this a shot because... well... let's do the math, shall we...

Borla True Dual Exhaust system - $700.00
Stillen Exhaust system - $$OH MY GOD!!$$

loosening some bolts.... FREE!!!

A question/concern I have though is this. If you disconnect the pipe from the muffler, is that going to give you an exhaust leak, or is that kinda the point of it all?? Also, wouldn't the exhaust and sound be exiting from under rather than behind the car? Is that good? I guess that personally I am just looking for the deep growl (not to be confused with the Uncle Ben's Exhaust systems that sound like $hit), but I don't want to lose any hp in the process. Hell, it's free so what's the harm I guess, but I just want to make sure that I am not going to mess anything up by doing this??

I'm sure that this has already been done, but could washers be put in between the to parts and then bolted back together? You could get different thickness washers to "tune" the exhaust sound? Just a thought

With all that said... I WILL capture sound clips and post them after I do this. Not sure about video, but deffinately sound.

Default Heeeeeeeere's Audio

I did this Exhaust mod a little while ago and actually took some video and edited it all together all cool-like, but unfortunately the finished video ended up being about 13.9MB (it's about 1.5 minutes long and is a complete step by step process of what I did) and unless someone wants to host the file for me, I have nowhere to host it so instead I made an audio file of the stock exhaust (unmodded), and then immediately after is the modded exhaust sound. I am EXTREMELY happy with the sound, but my wife thinks it's too "ricey". You be the judge.

(I edited this post to point to the instructional website I just made on how to do this mod)

Why not put your video files on lets Imesh or Kaaza. Then all Zers can put audio/video/jpg of their Z on that peer to peer so we can share and dl with more ease......

So, there are the two bolts, and one of the bolts has the ground wire. Get a few washers and make about a 1/4 inch opening? Im guessing put the ground wire in the opening of the bolt place on the mid pipe?
