Ok I've listened to all the sound bites and read alot of the threads on the subject. I'm looking for some advise before I run out and spend a couple grand. Here's what I'm thinking of doing. Strupp headers, Borla Catback, and a CAI (I haven't decided which one yet). I'm looking for a deeper - "throughty" sound. I really don't want the high pitched rice rocket sound. What do you guys think of the ones that I have mentioned above? Is it ok to just leave the stock cat on? How much will test pipes change the sound compared to the high flow cat, or just leaving the stock one on? Can anyone suggest a good place to order them online, Or can anyone suggest a good place in San Diego CA. Thanks for the help. RUSS

 

I recommend that you:

a. Set a budget.
b. Decide what configuration is best for you. Single. Dual. One or two mufflers.
c. Listen before buying.

 

The stock cats are the most restrictive part of the exhaust. But if you're only doing an exhaust for SOUND, then leave them on.

As for which one sounds the best, no one can tell you over the internet, you just have to figure it out for yourself.

LOL I asked him about the a couple exhaust threads ago. Apparently he actually DOES have a template for it! haha

 

As far as exhaust - you might spend $800 - or choose $1,500. Don't cram everything into a $2,000 budget - it's the wrong way to do it.

You have to figure out which mod is your top choice and go from there - outline everything you want and put together a REAL budget, based on what you want, then figure out which things should be done first, second, etc.

When it come to exhaust - work your way from the rear to the front. If your going to buy a catback, then buy the one that sounds like what you want. Web-based recording are good to get an idea from, but you really need to be in a car that has one - and that install should be several thousand miles old when the car is HOT and been driven for a bit. That way you'll know the loudest that system CAN be. They are always softer sounding when cold - and that is true for systems that have even sat for 30 minutes!
