^ lolll...can anybody tell me if this exhaust sounds like the hks?

 

from the videos I have seen and heard the clips of the imitation HKS, no it does not sound like it at all.

The HKS is more high pitched compared to the knock off which is more low and deep.

Although on this vid, my car has other bolt ons (thats why its raspy), I know for sure the HKS is more high pitched when it is just the exhaust alone.

 

i agree, listening to that clip it sounds like its different. But i just put mine on, and i've heard that its tone changes over time, lets c what happens in a week or two

not only those guys with hks replica exhaust want the exhaust to look like HKS. They want it to sound like HKS exhaust too. LOL.
Now the question is: Do they want it to smell like HKS also?

The tips won't never look close near to the real HKS cause they are made of SUS304 not Ti - they are just blue flamed to imitate Ti.

I am curious about the inside of the knock off - it would be quite interesting if some would have a beat up HKS and saw thru it to make some pictures, so we could compare the real thing with the k.o.

Anyways I've just ordered one, will see how it looks when I get it

yea my videos are normally f'ed up, i'll try n get some up over the weekend with the new sony HDD cam. But i must say i do like the deeper tone, i don't like the sharp ricey tone

there isn't anything ricey about the hks tone... if anything is ricey its knockoffs from china

 

Im more concerned with the piping itself. If it mirrors the HKS it, in theory, should flow the same. Thats why I bought it. I could care less if it sounds like the HKS or not. Its not the HKS, it doesnt have HKS canisters. Im sure the XO2 doesnt sound the exactly the same as the above video. But videos dont give true representation of the sound anyway. Plus, he has headers and test pipes.

Wow.. now imagine if there's a used X02 HKS knock off. They'd cost like.. $300? Sounds like an Asian killer deal to me! Anyone got tired of their knock off yet?

 

I think the original sounds way better.

 

Compare both in one place, Zs with similar mods, stock cats vs stock cats - you cannot actually say how something sounds till you hear it yourself, the whole exhaust sound sample thing does not give you a true judgement - too many factors which could change the final tone.

There is an obvious difference in the inside of the canisters, if we could get both cut thru we could judge if it differs so much.

Keep in mind how Chinese knock offs are made - they get the real thing from someone and the cut it to piecies to exactly learn how it is made, and then they imitate it as good as they can. I even wouldn't be much suprised if the actual HKS is made in Taiwan (they are somewhere between China and Japan with the products, bit higher prices than in China, but much better overall quality) I guess if somebody would order enough catbacks they could even make it full titanium which would be obviously better than the HKS
