Default Topspeed resonated test pipes... weird sound after install. **VIDEO**

Just last night I installed my resonated test pipes and after a 4K or 3.5K rev there is a "buzzing" sound coming from where I believe would be the test pipes themselves. Also, coming to a stop while my car is still in gear and the RPM's are dropping, that "buzzing" sound comes back. It's not your typical rasp from test pipes, I know what that sounds like. This sound is not coming from the exhaust or rear end, it's coming from test pipes. I have checked and triple checked that all bolts are nice and tight. No metal hitting metal and creating vibrations. Is this just the sound of the air going through the resonators? I have searched on this for the past two hours but could not find anything to calm my nerves.

No, I understand "rasp" or that "ball bearings in a coffie can" sound. This is more of a "hiss" and a "buzz" coming straight from the test pipe.

same thing.

you are hearing it through the floor? it is jsut the resonance of the airflow. sounds like little pebbles or dirt being blown through the pipes to me.

I think it's mostly beacuse the walls are thinner than oem so there is less sound deadening so you hear it more.

I heard it more when I put my headers on as well.

Not really through the floor. It's not that bad on the inside of the car. If you are outside of the car it seems to be coming from right behind the front tires. Could be my problem as well. I just put on my DCSports headers about two weeks ago so that could be making it a little worse sounding as well. I'll try to post a clip of the sound in a bit.

It may also be the flex pipes . . . make sure you don't have any leaks in that area.

How loud is this noise? I get the viper hiss but it is not 'loud'

I was about to say, now that you have driven a little, go through and re-tighten the bolts.

one question: did you use OEM gaskets or the crap peices they gave you?

It sounds like air escaping next to a gasket. Loosten and retighten all the exhuast bolts. From front to back

Using the crap that came with it.

That is what I am afraid of. I must make a correction tho. This sound is not happening at the 4K to 3.5K that I posted earlier. I just checked a second ago and it ONLY happens around the 2K-2.3K range.

Loud enough that I can hear it driving with the windows down.

I figured that if it was an exhaust leak the engine would sputter or I would lose power. It runs perfectly, (except for the typical "service engine soon" light came on a minute ago) and other than the "sound" everything else is perfect.

Small exhaust leaks will not cause stutter or a very noticable power loss.

i had a blown gasket on my right HFC just last week. I didnt notice any sputtering or power loss just when the car went into neutral or whinding down it would sound like it was losing air. Kinda like a tire losing air, i checked the bolts and my gasket connecting the header to the cat was fried. Put a new one in it, and the seal is good to go. No performance gain, car runs the same as far as i could tell. Check your bolts, something is loose, or burnt up.

U never know... just jack ur car get under neath it with a 2" strip of paper and start holding it around stuff to see if u have a leak.

Well, I get off work at 5. When I get home I am going to put it back on the lift and loosen then re-tighten all the bolts. If that doesn't work, I have an extra un-used set of Megan Racing resonated test pipes in the garage that have been sitting there collecting dust and put them on and see if the sound is still there.

Thanks to everyone that has taken time to post.

yea i had a really bad rasp one day, obnoxiously loud. turned out it was my 02 sensor was loose, and rattled on the pipe. tightened it up. but the raspy noise is normal w/ tp's. hate it or love it, i dont mind it.

ALWAYS either reuse the stock gaskets or buy new ones.

I have OEM gaskets for for the front and back sitting on my dinner table. 35 bucks. <well worth the investment when you see the difference.

and yeah, if it is louder you got an exhuast leak, but it is normal to hear a little more noise from the test pipes.
