Default sounds... plenum or intake..

So i just got done installing my AAM intake and plenum spacer. Started the car up, no sounds of a leak or anything wrong. took the car out for a drive, could feel a difference, liked the sound etc. Rolled down the windows and as i drove i could hear a "whistle or Whine" but only when i first hit the gas and then it would go away. I then noticed that it would stay around for a few seconds at 4000 rpms+ when under WOT, but then would go away as i got higher up in the rpm's..

Do these sounds like symptons of a leak due to the spacer, or does anyone else have expierence with a whine and the AAM intake. I know on previous cars there was sometimes a noise when i would blurp the throttle from the intake.

I figure if it was the spacer i would always hear some sort of a leak but i do not. I also checked how tight the bolts where after driving it for a while and letting the engine cool back down.

Thanks for the help guys.

Dave

Sounds like it is the intake.

Its a very common sound when spacers are installed and its not related to leaks.

Its simply the larger air volume rushing past the throttle body butterfly valve. No problem.

There may be a air leak.

But the fan kicking in was only coincidental.

im really thinking that the noise is related to the intake. I have ran custom intakes on several different cars, and there has always been a kind of whistle at certain rpms and throttle levels. my Z does it now. as far as stalling, i have no idea. Is that issue common with plenum spacers? also, do plenum spacers change the sound of the engine on the z?

i talked with Mike from Altered Atmosphere and he told me it sounds like there may be a small leak... when the engine is cold i am supposed to put my hand over the 6 bolts on top of the plenum and try to feel some suction or any noise..

Dcrobfukk part of the whistling is def. from the intake.. but i dont know if all of it is now.. i will report back

The popcharger makes a whistling/squealing noise.

I don't think it's the intake but your probably fine. I put my plenum spacer on with the stock intake and I heard the exact same whistle as you described. I just put on a mishimoto intake and the whistle became just a hair louder. If there was a leak I'd think you'd have idle problems. I'm Thinkin it's just the larger volume of air.

Probably just the larger volume of air. Same thing with test pipes, you can hear the air moving after switching from cats.

I just installed an Injen cold air intake on my completely stock 2003. When I rev the engine I get a high pitched squeak right before the engine sound builds up. It's so annoying, what could be causing this? I took it completely apart and re-installed the whole thing and it still does it. Also, at the end of the video, you can see when the needle falls back down it goes down to like 400rpms and almost stalls out. It's only been doing this since I installed the intake yesterday.

Here's a video that I shot with my phone ...... hopefully, the whine/squeal with my newly installed intake system can be sorted out.

the only "worthwhile/noncomedic" advice given on this thread, and will surely be widely ignored none the less.
