just put a set of crawford headers on the z and have noticed a significant increase in underhod temps, so m uch so that my cai intake pipe gets hot enough to just about burn you when you touch it. will heat wrapping it work or should i just try to wrap the headers which will be a PITA at his point?

I doubt he wants the tedious task of taking the headers back off just to wrap the headers even though that was a good idea to begin with. It won't gain any hp but it most likely will give back some it lost through the heat.
wrapping the intake is not a bad idea if you have a aluminum intake pipe. It's not hard at all either.

car moving or not the intake pipe was so hot i could only touch it for like 1-2 seconds before i had to pull my hand off it and ive been a chef for 12 years and am used to touching hot stuff with no bother. yes i should have wrapped the headers in the begining but i was told they would cause any issues cause they are coated, im just looking for a way to keep air intake temps down, hence the cai, and the heat wrap idea.

well from my point of view the air is sucked into the intake not forced in so the air is not sitting in the intake tube, so wrapping your intake seems like a useless task because the intake is sucking air cold or hot it wont change temps as it is going thru the tube.
