It sat in a man's garage (in Houston) for about 10 years. The car was never a real Countach, it was a kit car replica with a Porsche engine. The engine is seized and the brakes are locked and the hood is cracked and the paint is faded.

My neighbor has purchased it and hired a team of professional fabricators (the Graves brothers) to completely restore it.

If you really want a kick, go back and read the old issues of Car&Driver from that era and see how they FREAK on the Lambo's acceleration. Check it's quarter mile ET.

Granted, the top end is awesome, but the acceleration is no longer quite so impressive by today's standards... unless you are measuring its 100 - 180 mph sprint.

Well so far it has held up nicely...no problems what so ever. I was going to buy the Tanabe but the price of the Intense had me very interested. Researched a little and didn´t see people complaining about it and said what the heck. Only thing i would have to say bad about the y-pipe would be the packaging...but the y-pipe was unharmed Maybe if i ever have problems with it i will get the Tanabe...seems to be a great y-pipe from what i have read on these forums

Just curious if anyone happens to know how the "loudness" of this exhaust and nismo is compared to each other? Is it louder or quiter? Thanks.

I'm also interested in this exhaust, but I want to know if there is enough of a sound difference over the stock exhaust..I would hate to waste my money on something that isn't really different

I don't think I've ever heard the nismo in person so I would not know.

Funny you ask this today. Previously I never really had the oportunity to really hear the stock exhaust of the Z. Until last night on my way home, when I followed a guy in an 03-05-ish Z roadster. The stock sounds higher pitched compared to the Tanabe Hyper. Mine was much deeper and a bit louder as well. You can really tell when I got on the gas. The stock seemed extremely mellow and (I hate using this term) 'ricey'. The Tanabe is more exotic.

Hate to bring back an old thread from the dead, but this is the very exhaust I'm looking at, and am very happy the search function finally pulled up a thread that gets at exactly what I'm looking for. Just one question, how is the fit/finish of the tanabe compared to others? I haven't much experience with tanabe, and don't know anyone running any parts by them. Also, the pics posted on the first page no longer work...could you possibly re-up them?? Thanks!

^ fit and finish is great. I was surprised, the quality is comparable to all the other well known JDM brands.

An exhaust that smoothes out the 1-2 shift? It makes you wonder about the rest of the review.

I never said it smoothed out the 1-2 shift. What I said was that with my driving/shifting style, I didn't have as much bog/buck in 1st and 2nd as I did with the Injen. Could this be in my head? Maybe. Could it have something to do with the slightly more responsive low-end? Most likely. Is anyone else going to experience this? Maybe not. Am I the greatest manual transmission driver in the world? No. I have owned 14 cars in the 15 years I've been driving and all but 2 have been manual. Does this mean I know what I'm talking about? Not at all. Take my review with a grain of salt.

The quality of material and craftsmanship is top notch. The Injen I removed was a 3 year old exhaust, but the Tanabe seemed like a higher quality piece. Everything lined up 100%. All parts were included (nuts, bolts, gaskets), even a couple extra bolts.
