RAM AIR with UTEC logs ( before and after )
Hey Guys,
Messed around with my Varis intake duct this weekend. Ended up adding a larger hose to run from the back of the duct to the box. Also opened up the hole on the back of the Duct a bit larger.
I have some utec logs of before and after i conected the hose. Once the hose was conected to the Varis duct it lean the car out a good bit.
Here are some pics and the log that shows the car is recieving more air.
Since then, i have retuned the car to be where it was before. I just added more fuel accross the board.
Here are the logs

His AFR's are in the far right column of the logs...
These are very interesting results... The post-varis AFR doesn't really start to lean out until you are in the upper RPM's. Which by that point your MPH's are probably high enough for the effects of the "air ram" to kick in. Very interesting... Thanks for posting.

So you are claiming NO improvement basically?

If you compare the top log to the log with the air ram, the air ram side is leaner. The one with out, is what i had the car tuned to prior to the installation.
I since have tuned the car back down to a AFR of around 13.0 and it is running real strong.
It seems that i am recieve more air by my AFR going leaner with the addition of the hose.
What do you guys think?

But yes, it is very interesting. Its nice seeing how mods affect the AFR. I believe it is helping, but this is something that i can not test on the dyno. So this Friday I plan on going back to the Drag strip to see.

One thing i dont understand is...
If you look at the 3rd column from the left, it shows the voltage. It seems as if the voltage is lower with the second with the ram air. But that could be due to it being cooler when i did the first log with out the ram air.
Any how, it does seem as if i am making more power since i retuned for the extra air.

When I went from my Injen CAI to a Popcharger I had to pull a lot of fuel out of my map and I had a noticable decrease in the injector duty cycle. I was quite surprised by the results since soo many people love the popcharger. I honestly couldn't tell much difference on the butt dyno but the popcharger was noticably louder so it may be playing mind tricks. I think I am going back to the Injen CAI setup and tweaking my fuel map again. This thread helped me make that decision just tonight

When it comes to the popcharger, i honestly think that it only makes more power on the Dyno. Where as the cold air intake makes more while driving and less on the dyno.
If you had to pull fuel out going from a CAI to a popcharger, then you did lose power while DRIVING. On the dyno would have been different.
This is why i like having the UTEC, so i can see for myself what is going on each time i change something on my car. If you have to add more fuel, to keep your AFR the same. Then you are making more power.

I've been contemplating doing the varis duct mod... Is water ever an issue? Like rain & water vapor being kicked up on the freeway? Any debris, leaves, or birds getting lodged in there while driving? Lol~ Seriously though... Thx.

I'm trying something very similar with my 07' except the ram air duct opening is much much larger and it is a dual design. I'll post pics tonight. I am also wrapping most of the duct and going to wrap my fujita intake with a/c ducting to prevent heat soak.

Did you post pics yet? Curious to see what you come up with.
