I am on my 2nd set of TP's and now need a third set. First I went with Megan...that explains it all. Then I bought some Ichiba's, now the passenger side tp started rattling pretty bad, no exhaust leak though. Now it finally cracked or something. Has a very bad exhaust leak and it sounds horrible. Has anyone else had this issue running tp's with the Nismo catback?? I dont know what else to do and I really dont want to put my stock cats back in. Feedback???

 

replace your y pipe with something that has more flex. I didnt have a problem with my aam y pipe and test pipes

 

My GF's 06' w/Nismo exhaust had a set of test-pipes crack completely in half at the welds. Now less than 300 miles on her second set and they sound like they cracked again-passenger side. The Nismo y-pipe has small flex areas where they bolt to the cat/tp's...

edit-only thing I can think of is have them rewelded better at a shop...BTW-she runs resonated TP's...

 

I had a set of Helix tp's crack at the bracket so I have my old ones on now and they are fine.... but my damn flex pipe is leaking

 

Interesting my GF's drivers side flex pipe on her Nismo y-pipe has no visible hole, but is leaking, very annoying. Seems a lot of Nismo exhausts are cracking TP's, makes me think something isnt aligned right with those. All these TP's cant be that $hitty. Ive had friend with garbage Megan Racing TP's with INjen and AAM, and JIC exhausts and they never cracked....

 

Thats my take on it too, definitely something with the Nismo exhaust because I seem to be the only person with this problem around here. Right now I have crappy quality tp's on compared to the Helix and they're holding up fine. But the flex pipe is leaking like a **** and there is no visible hole.

Just to give you an idea how it sounds... went to a drive-thru and the lady says "Sir, can you please turn off your truck?"

you get what you pay for... you want a $100 set of TP's the life expectancy is only a year or two if that. If you want something that is going to last the life of the car, then it cost more. Many people go with HFC's because they are more durable than TP's. (i know some will argue, but you dont see too many HFC failure threads vs TPs) Most of the time TP's will crack at the welds do the mounting brackets on them. The torque from the engine jolts them around and will seperate the welds from the pressure of it all over time. Some quicker than others, but their $100 and haven't been given enough TLC. It boils down to, do you want to buckle down and get something you dont have to replace, or spend 1/5th that and replace them once a year? Up to you....

 

I've been running some no name brand test pipes for 1.5 years and haven't had any issues with them. Its kind of funny because I compared the quality and thickness of the Helix to my old ones and I was like wow, these things are crap. I put the Helix on and the damn things cracked

Personally I wouldn't use the mounting brackets ever again because I don't think its necessary.

 

I bought brents nismo catback with the AAM y pipe and never had a problem with the test pipes when I had it on my 06. Think its the nismo y pipe.

 

Could be. I Ran Ebay POS test pipes on my Z and never had an Issue with the Injen TD....

 

Actually I remember reading people complaining about breaking test pipes easily with the nismo catback. Do a quick search and see if you can find something on it...

 

Are you guys with broken test pipes attempting to return them to manufacture for a refund or exchange? What happened? I know that test pipes do not come with a written warranty, but isn’t functionality assumed? What is a reasonable unwritten warranty? 12 months/12,000 miles?

 

I'm getting a new set of Helix test pipes from Gruppe-S.

 

I returned mine David to Intense and they sent me out a new set...those cracked in about a week

 

Yeah this is a Nismo Y pipe issue then. Im just gonna put my stock cats back in for now. Eventually I'll switch out the y pipe for something else and run some tp's. Stupid Nismo!

 

It's just the Nismo exhaust. You just need additional bracing when using aftermarket HFCs or TPs.

 

It has 2 flex pipes, apparently thats not enough...

 

Yeah, it's how the weight is distributed and puts pressure on the cats/tp. That's why there is a lot of bracing stock.

no you tard, i was stating you get what you pay for. There's 10x the failure rate on cheaply manufactured test pipes compared to respectable brands that cost upward of $150. They all produce the same results just which one is going to continue to perform well?
