I have had the HKS racing suction kit for a couple years and I am very happy with it. When I first installed it, the first thing I noticed was the unique sound that it brought out in my car. The VQ35DE really growls with this intake and it adds a slight whistle when you lift off the throttle. The second thing I noticed was an extra kick of power during accelleration, however a little of that could possibly be attributed to the fact that I installed this when my car had an air filter near the end of its lifespan.
The installation of this intake was a pain in the butt. The bend in the heat shield was very stiff and it took at least a whole frustrating hour to figure out and get right. I'm mechanically inclined, and this thing drove me nuts. The last step was to install the mushroom shaped air filter. The area is cramped and it was difficult to get the plastic molded frame for the filter in place too. I change the filter every 7,500 miles with my oil and they're always very dirty. They cost about $20 each and for fun you can buy different colors. It takes about five minutes to change the filter. There is a rumor going around that HKS filters don't trap particles as well as other filters. However, I haven't noticed any crap in the intake or plenum.
I like to try and buy Japanese products for my Japanese car. Since I've owned HKS products before and I was happy with my past experiences, I was interested in this product. I did research and compared this to the best bang for the buck on the market, the JWT Pop Charger. The HKS RS Intake had one bananna over the Pop Charger. The HKS had an streamlined aluminium intake pipe, where the Pop Charger used the stock flexible pipe. SPL offered a replacement aluminium intake pipe that worked with the Pop Charger, but by the time you bought both, it was close to the same price as the HKS.
Overall, I'm very happy with this product and I do not regret my purchase. When I bought this, I never though that it would change the sound of the car, but I think it adds as much character as my Fujitsubo exhaust.

Doo eeeet! Can't go wrong with HKS. If there are so many complaints about "the mushroom of death", i am very sure HKS would address this somehow as they are very finiky about there products. Also, why would all the big power 2JZ's and RB's be running them if they where crap?

I'm guessing that there was a bunch of mixed reviews of the HKS mushroom filter due to the amount of replicas and phonies made and sold on Ebay.
People would try and duplicate it and put a $hit type of material for a filter which of course, wouldn't filter anything. . .

i have the hks rs intake also
i cant beleive thanh has the same intake.
its pretty rare to see and he lives across the street from me!
$200 brand new is a steal. id jump on it.
sounds pretty nice and looks purty with one of those peach hks filters.
the heatshield install is bs. its so hard to intall i just threw it out.
basically paying for the name.
the popcharger i had previously got the same job done for half the price.

With those giant turbos they are squeezing in, there was no room left for a normal pleated filter.
