Hey guys,
Had some questions about the Nismo S-Tune Catback Exhaust. I know that there is an amazing deal floating around ($750 + shipping), however before I spend the cash, wanted to know a few things.
First off, I know this exhaust doesn't have the best gains compared to true duals, however the cost is more efficient, has the look of stock tips (don't like large diameter muffler tips), and doesn't dramatically alter the stock sound I love so much.
My question is, (and I ask because I had alot of problems with my previous car when it came to exhaust work), does this exhaust make me fail inspection because of the removal of the secondary cat? (Im in NY)
Also, can I expect any gains at all? (However modest they may be)
Any other insights or information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

- i didnt notice any gains based on driving impressions
- it has a deeper tone, yet retains the VQ exhaust sound
- on the hwy, with windows up, you get a very slight droning
- the Nismo tips look good, balanced, and doesn't scream attention
- the tip retains the angled cut like the OEM (unlike most aftermarket)
- build quality is superb
Basically this exhaust has a slightly more aggressive sound and looks compared to OEM. At the same time, it will get attention from other car enthusiasts, but not cops. The closest thing I know in terms of quality/perf/price is the Bassani at $890, but that's a group buy thing.

You will have no issues with emissions or inspection, think of it as a better sounding, more free flow OEM exhaust. Fitment is dead on too being a nissan part. Expect maybe 5-6hp out of it using stock cats.

I've had my nismo for a week. I agree it's slightly louder and deeper. I parked next to a stock Z yesterday, and the tips are turned up a bit on an angle whereas stock is closer to straight. The opening is slightly flaired out. Looks better. The drone from my stock was 3-4 times louder at say 30 mph at 2000 rpm ie if I'm in 4th or 5th on a flat or downhill. That's several peoples opinion who have been in it. It growls nicely when you push on the gas at any point. It sounds somewhat exotic at high rpms at wot. As far as gains are concerned, my initial impression was zilch, and most people would say you shouldn't notice 5 HP (or whatever}. However, I wanna believe after blasting around for a week that it might be snappier. I bought it for the sound, not the performance- nice purr without pissing everyone off.

On the same boat as the OP. Other than sound and being chrome with an angle, is the piping the exact same size as OEM? Weight wise whats the difference between them? If everything is pretty much the same aside from what I noted above what accounts for the suspected 5-6hp gains?

my nismo exhaust gets delivered tomorrow and goes on this weekend. i bought it b/c its not overly loud but it retains the VQ sound which i believe no other exhaust properly does, sans for maybe the tanabe. its all personal opinion of course but ive been watching a ton of vids and i always come back to the nismo
