Default AEM Short Ram Kit

ok guys I'm thinkin about flashin my ECU pretty soon but before I do that I was thinkin of slappin on an AEM short ram. I know it doesnt make horsies realistically, but does it take away power? I'm just lookin for the sound but if its going to take away one or two HP im not down to put one on. thanks

I think short ram won't do any damage to your system

Default Short ram

AEM does not make a short ram for the Z. If you are thinking of just putting the filter on the end of the MAF sensor adaptor, think again. THe air supply to that area is incredibly hot, making for a loss in power. Jim wolf addressed this with a rinky-dink heat shield that is a pain to install and doesnt do a good job blocking off heat from behind the filter. It doenst even seal tightly with the hood. Also, the longer AEM cold-air intake will give you better low through mid-range gains compared to a short intake that performs well above 4500 RPM. Also, It does not matter what intake you have on your car when you flash the ecu.
Because the AEM cold air is long, it amplifies the intake resonance noise. You notice a definite sound difference with the cold air. A short ram sounds a lot like stock. Also, could you really tell if your car was not making 1HP? If so, you are on crack.
good luck.

haha no i quit drugs a while ago, i only said 1 hp cuz i dont wanna be losing it on a chart, but im only lookin to get the sound to be honest with you. as far as AEM short ram not existing, thats a wierd thing in itself, some sites have it, some dont, some disappear, some re-appear. i was even at technosquare today and the guy said its a good mod to have for the high end rpms.

Actually, I barely noticed any sound difference between a CAI vs STOCK. With a short ram like the JWT there is a noticeable difference in intake growl vs STOCK.
