Excessive oil in the cone had fouled up the MAS from my tacoma. I could imagine that the short rams are more susceptible to this. I've had my Nismo CAI for about a year now, no problems so far.

Not to thread jack or anything, but do any of you guys own a Nismo CAI? The original packaging didn't come with maintenance instructions. Is it a Dry Flow or an Oil based?

Oil based. The filter part is basically the same thing that K&N sells. You can use a K&N recharge kit. But if you put too much oil on or don't let it dry properly, it can get sucked into your MAF and cause a rough idle -- or just completely stall out.

Use an AEM DryFlow filter instead. Same price as a K&N recharge kit (3 use), but you get a brand new filter each time, and with no wait time (sometimes with your car lifted off the ground, depending on where your filter is positioned).

Agreed, had the filter replaced twice/no oil.

You can clean the dryflow filters too.

Just use some water.
