Grounding kit or CAI?
Up until I discovered that the Injen CAI systems are not readily available near me (Orange County) I was planning to buy one today after work to install. Since it looks like I'd have to order one online or have a dealer order one I am now trying to decide if I want to get the Injen CAI or the InsaneAnime Grounding kit? Although if anyone has one available or knows where to get an Injen CAI in the Orange County areatoday then I'll come buy it!
If it were your choice, which of the two would you go for?

Injen vendors often times just have Injen drop ship. And since Injen is in SoCal (Pomona are I believe) you should be able to get a CAI in 1-2 days. Imntcrzy is right- make the grounding kit yourself or order one of Insameamine's for cheap.

You didn't listen to me before. Listen to me now. I strongly second SteminRice. The stock "Z" intake is a great design IMO, the only way to improve it is with a K&N. Get that with a good grounding kit, and you'll be OK on the intake side. However, save your pennies for a Crawford Plenum. The biggest bang for the buck out there.

yea...grounding kits are nothing but a wiring upgrade you can do yourself with some decent 4ga power wire and some ring terminals all availalbe on ebay.
www.sounddomain.com has a wealth of information on this "upgrade" under their electrical explanation forum as one of their stickied threads.
hope that helps

I have to agree with steaminrice and lowrider.......... get a good grounding kit and save up for something else besides a CAI.
The stock intake was VERY well thought out. Pop open the hood and look where it funnels air in from. It takes air from the front of the radiator. At speed, the air comming in the grill will be the coolest air possible and it will get funnled into the air intake with some positive pressure. A CAI is almost useless and possibly less effective then the stock intake because it loses that small bit of positive pressure.
I wire for a living. When i install anything from sensitive electronics like relays to 15kV power transformers, I have to ground everything. Grounding serves many purposes and in the 350Z, it simply provides the electronics in the car a cleaner signal. This way, everything properly grounded can run more precisely as it was intended. Best bang for the buck IMO.

Thank you to all who have responded. I have decided to stick with the stock airbox and go with the grounding kit. I think I'll make it myself though rather than buy it already made. Anyone know where there's a store to get the wire and terminals from??

lowrider,
I would definitely love to get a crawford plenum, but I think I'll wait until a plenum is available that allows you to use the stock swaybar. I know there is a thread on a new plenum in the design stages and there are is an argument about the stock swaybar and that Crawford offers a swaybar to use in conjunction with their plenum... but why would I want to pay MORE money for something that I have already? I'll wait.

buy the wires at any car stereo shop or online. another idea if you don't have wire cutters and crimpers is to get the lengths that you need and tell the stereo shop to cut them to length and put on the ring terminals. That way you don't have to deal with cutting or crimping
Well, I got the parts yesterday and made a grounding kit. Crimping those gold connectors on the ends is a pain in the a$$ if you don't have a "real" 4 gauge wire crimping tool. Did'nt feel like spending the $219.00 the electronics store was asking and when I went to Home depot and showed them a picture of the "Industrial Crimp" that InsaneAnime shows on his thread for $30.00 the guy laughed at me. Ended up using a pair of vise grips to do the job. an hour, 3 beers, and a near dislocated shoulder (no joke) later... I had a 6-wire grounding kit ready to install. Had a bit of trouble when attatching the wires to the right front of the plenum. Overtightened the bolt and stripped out the threads in the hole!!
Luckily I used a 10mm bolt so I just replaced with a 16mm (little longer) and it caught the threads below the stripped ones. So BE CAREFUL when tightening the bolts so that you don't do what I did!
