Default 4.083 Final Drive vs Uprev Tune?

i have an 05 350z with full bolts-on, im thinking either getting a tune or a final drive, i wanted to do both, but i want to ask which one will worth more for the money at this point? Or wait til i get the final drive then get a tune?

I agree w/the others. Get all your mods together, including gears. Then get UpRev and get'er tuned.

If you are looking to see higher hp numbers on your dyno, it doesn't matter whether you have 4.08 final drive or not(based on what someone else on this forum told me). Get whichever you want more! My tune with osiris gave me some good gains. I want 4.08 final drive now too! =)

I say go for the tune first! Then you can use the extra rev range you gain from the tune to put more use to the gears!

Given your list of mods and being untuned, I'd say get it tuned first. If you ever planned on adding an aftermarket LSD to the car, then don't bother with the gear, until you have both the gear and new LSD in your possession.

To install the new gear, the old one has to be removed from the differential, be it the base or VLSD. If an LSD upgrade is in your future, you would be effectively paying the exact same labor, or if you are DIYing, doing the same exact procedure, twice.

However, with that said, one would "feel" the acceleration from the gear more than a tune.

Of course. It's not a matter of needing one to do the other. I just posted it as an FYI. Example...

If labor for installing the gear was, let's say 300 dollars (this isn't a real number, just for example purposes). If you happened to have an LSD on hand as well, the labor cost wouldn't increase, or depending on the shop, would be marginal at most.

If you never plan on getting an LSD at all, ever, then the gear is a good choice. Although the 4.08 might make it easier to overload the OEM VLSD, or cause some serious peglegging on the base diff. I only mention it as a heads up, don't want you paying for the gear and install, and then have to pay the same install price later to replace an LSD when the labor would have practically been free if you had done it at the same time.

i read on one of the thread on the site about the 4.083 gear, i see that the gear came off of the Frontier Nissan, and 1 member also mention about finding a wreck Frontier and take the gear off of it and put them on the z? Im just wondering if it will fit, and what year of the frontier will fit.

I think after most people tune, they gain another 500 rpm to rev to, though I don't believe any more power is made with a higher redline.

There is no set amount......you can set it where you want it. Mine is 7000, but I know of other DE's that go to 7200. Power drops off quickly, but the added rpms allow you to fall more squarely into the power range when you shift.

Yes that is very true. Just looking at the screen while my car was being tuned made me go Funny cuz I totally forgot to ask the dude tuning my car to bump up my redline a tad bit, lol

i almost have full bolt ons, less headers and i went with 3.9 gears, and love them, i have heard that 3.9s are better for the DE and 4.08s are better for the HRs, but i will be setting up for a tune w/ Uprev for the end of this month, need to get ready for ZCON...

p.s the gears were the best mod yet

Ive read numerous reviews about the gears being an awesome mod but I can imagine going any quicker through them then what I have now lol...I am basically stock and have wanted 4.08s but thought thatd be a big NO_NO with a S/C, Id prolly burn right through 1-4 trying to get traction
