Being a newbie, per the advice of others, the first mod I got was a CAI. It's human nature to justify to yourself after spending $250 on something, how "great" or "worthwhile" it is. I've also tricked myself into thinking it "feels" faster as well. The truth of it is it sounds cool and looks cool. That's about it. If, and that's a big "if", it makes power, how are you going to feel 3-5 HP? That being said, I love my CAI.....or at least that's what I'll keep telling myself being lighter 250 bucks.

There are NO dynos out proving that a Cold Air loses horespower. The only dynos I've seen are the ones comparing the AEM vs. Injen. Both of them gained power but the Injen gain just a little more. 5whp is about the average. No you can't really feel the difference, but add I/E and Plenum and yes you can feel a difference. It's all part of opening up the flow. Those that don't want an intake, that is great, but saying they are dangerous is just an rumor.

Anyone know which K&N filter fits the 350Z? I want to call around and ask for this filter specifically and see if I can find it locally.

Part #?

drop in redherring? If you're going with a drop in, I suggest you find a stainless steel one or wait until one comes out. z32 has one. You blow it with compressed air when it's dirty

Yeah, drop in. Is there a stainless steel filter for the 350z? I read that nismo was coming out with a higher performance filter for the 350z ( drop in ). don't know what it is or when.

Jeff how much?
And yes CAI has caused a loss in HP before. I will try to find the dyno again. Also there is no need for a stanless drop in but it sound kinda cool. Just change your K&N after 50K miles dont be cheap and try to re-oil.

I have a AEM and people always ask me do if I feel a difference.
I tell them not really but I love the way its sound. Its a matter
of preference. Its also make your engine bay look nicer.

That maybe so but there are people who have lost as well. Dyno innacuracy has to be taken into account as well.
But what about losing the ability to pressurise air at speed. Isn't that important?

I don't know about anyone else here. But I can tell you CAI mods improved my previous cars a little. Granted none of them were NA......

A drag strip would be good proving grounds provided you're a consistent driver

I have stats to prove your pressure at air at speed theory wrong. I did it tonight, and will post graphs once I figure out how to modify a word document pic to JPEG
