Nissan and my CATS
alright so here is my dilemma....I have an 04 with 76000 miles and this month was my first smog. So there I go to the smog shop and it fails!! .. My car is completely stock so I was like WTF ....anywho the guy at the shop says my cats are bad so i was like its ok my warranty covers my cats upto 80K .. I Go into Nissan and explain to them my dilemma and long story short my cats are "operational" so my warranty wont cover them however they are not operational enough to pass smog so my question is HOW DO I MAKE MY CATS "UN-OPERATIONAL" SO I CAN GET NEW ONES FROM NISSAN WARRANTY????
I already tried ... they wont pass ... my HydroCarbon emmisions are high because of my cats Ive gone to 2 smog shops and one Nissan dealership...best advice i got was from the Nissan guy to somehow make em defective, meaning my CEL has to come on because of the cats...

not crying jackass just asking a simple question, if you dont know the answer STFU, I dont need any of this negative $hit. I already got a backup pair of cats just trying to see if I can get new ones before my warranty is over...any helpful info is appreciated
You see when Nissan tells you the cats are "operational" but not able to pass emission testing and they dont wanna honor their warranty, it tends to **** people off, especially when each cat is 1k. Sure I can just install the used ones but its not the same as getting new ones.....

What I can't figure out is this ... in most states, if you fail emissions, you can go to a "challenge station" which is run by the state. They will do a more thorough test and if you still fail, they will give you a special certificate. You take the certificate to Nissan which runs the test and says that everything is working within specs, so they sign off on the certificate. You go back to the challenge station and they give you a "free pass" because your car works per factory specs, but fails their test.
There are a bunch of cars that fail the test at the local inspection stations that eventually get a pass by the state via that route.

Regardless, in respect to time cost/benefit ratio, you can purchase cats for your car in the regional forum for less than 200$.
That's what they're trying to say. 1k for each cat? Surely the dealership doesn't expect you to believe they're worth even that much, lol.
