Motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer-question regarding additional noise
Hi guys,
For those that have installed this, did you get an additional whistle noise at partial throttle under load? I couldn't seem to find any threads on this and just wanted to make sure that it's ok. I contacted Tony and he said that it's like a 50/50 phenomenon where 50% of users get it, and the other 50 don't. Everything is torqued to 100 inch/lb and all seems fine performance wise(I think, but I don't trust butt-dyno). Thoughts and opinions appreciated.
If it matters, I have an '05 manual Z and got the copper iso-thermal kit.

Yup, I have a pop charger. The new additional sound is like a high pressured air whistle type of thing and it only happens during accel, never during decel. Doesn't really sound like the pop charger, and it never happens at WOT or really low throttle, maybe like at 25-50% throttle.

No noise here. I have the one without the iso-thermal kit...

That was kinda what I was hoping I didn't have, the dreaded vacuum leak...my idle is exactly where it was before I installed the spacer(around 700rpm and rock steady) that's why I'm so confused as to why I have that additional noise. I guess I will learn to love it.

Yeah, with any sort of intake filter you may hear an additional whistle after installation.
As long as everything is torqued correctly you should be good to go!
I have a popcharger and a 5/16, and after installation my pop charger was noticeably louder.
Good luck!

I have the popcharger and hear the whistle sound as well. Same as you, only under load and only at 20-25% throttle, regardless of RPM or gear.
I'm hoping that when I add my plenum spacer that I don't lose it. It has grown on me and I think I would miss it.

The Motordyne instruction manual has been written with years worth of added tips, tricks and suggestions gained from the forums. Follow that installation manual and you are good to go.
Then of course I'm always available by phone if you need help during your install.
As for the sequence of installation. Don't install them at the same time. I suggest installing the modifications no less than one day at a time and give it time enough to drive around after each install. This will let you know the results of each installation in isolation.

Plenum spacer*
Hey guys, I also had just a stillen intake / z tube before installing my 5/16 iso thermal copper spacer. Same thing here, strange sucking/whistling sound almost like I'm boosted coming on around 2000-2500 RPM under load, wasn't there before, pretty loud, definitely sounds like a leak but I double checked everything. Idle is fine, car of course feels little more snappy but the sound is driving me nuts n making me concerned, in park when I rev you hear just the intake but in drive when I rev I hear that loud whistle / sucking sound, thinking about redoing everything from step 1 for peace of mind, anyone else have any input ??
